Jeff Gordon 2006 Race Comments

2-19- Daytona 500-Not such a good start to the season, thank you very much cry baby Tony Stewart. When will Jeff quit putting up with Tony taking him out? Finished 26th.

2-26- Auto Club 500-Pretty uneventful race. Poor call not to pit there at the end of the race. Should have finished in top 10, but will have to settle for 13th. Best part of the day was when Tony Stewart lost his engine! Made my day! He finished last! Couldn't happen to a nicer guy!

3-12- UAW/DaimlerCrysler 400-Looking better! Finished 5th! Moves into 9th in the points.

3-19- Golden Corral 500-A pretty routine day for Jeff. Finished 4th, in this uneventful race.

3-26- Food City 500-Unbelievable! Taken out on the last lap by Matt Kenseth. Sent back to 21st from 3rd. After the race, Jeff shoved Matt as he was coming to appoligize. Emotions were running high. Hopefully, Nascar will overlook this situation, but then again, it's not Tony Stewart, so Nascar likely will impose a penalty of some sort.

4-2- Direct TV 500-Good day. Came back from a flat tire early in the race. Who knows, if not for that, Jeff might have won! Finished 2nd.

4-9- Samsung/Radio Shack 500-Ill handling car all day! Finished 22nd, 2 laps down.

4-22- Subway Fresh 500-Struggles to a 10th place finish. Thanks to a few guys running out of fuel! Maybe next week!

4-30- Aaron's 499-Leading with 3 laps to go and gets hung out to dry! Finished 15th. Lead the most laps (62).

5-6- Crown Royal 400-When it rains, it pours! Another bad day. First DNF of the year. Engine problems. Finished 40th. I guess that's better than getting taken out by Tony Stewart!

5-13- Dodge Charger 500-2nd place finish! A couple more laps, Jeff would have won this one.

5-20- Nextel All-Star Challenge*-Finishes 4th in this All-Star event.

5-28- Coca Cola 600-Bad day. Started out good, but started having trouble half way through the race, with finally hitting the wall and ending his day. 2nd DNF of this season.

6-4- Neighborhood Excellence 400-What's going on? Why can't Jeff keep the car up front? Is he complaining to much and over adjusting the car? Come on Jeff, get with the program. Why change a car that is leading? You'll get use to it. Drive it on the edge like you use to do! We want to see you win! Finished 12th.

6-11- Pocono 500-3rd DNF of the season. Bad crash late in the race. Really need to step it up or you won't be in the chase again this year!

6-18- 3M Performance 400-Finishes 8th in this rain shortened race.

6-25- Dodge/SaveMart 350K-Long time in coming, 1st win this season! Led most laps. 9th career road coarse wins! 5th win at Sonoma! Moves to 8th in points! Keep it up! It's a miracle that Jeff won today, with the way Tony Stewart was bashing into other cars. He finally got his though, having engine problems late in the race, kept him away from Jeff!

7-1- Pepsi 400-You half to be kidding! Caught up in someone elses accident 6 laps from the end of the race. 4th DNF this year. Finished 40th. Moves to 12th in points.

7-9- USG Sheetrock 400-Controversive win, but a win is a win!! Jeff taps Matt Kenseth and Matt spins out. Everybody is bad mouthing Jeff. Why? When someone takes Jeff out do they say anything bad about that driver? What Jeff done was not intentional, but if it was, IT'S ABOUT TIME!!!! Glad to see the shoe on the other foot for a change! Jeff's on a roll. Let's hope he keeps it up for the rest of the season. Moves to 10th in points.

7-16- Lenox Industrial Tools 300-Caught up in other peoples accidents. Finishes 15th, but moves into 9th in the points.

7-23- Pennsylvania 500-Finished 3rd! A good day. Ran in top ten most of the day. Need a couple more wins to get solid in points. Maintains 9th in points.

8-6- Brickyard 400-Tough day. Turned a bad start into a real good finish. Broke a sway bar on the first lap. Went down 3 laps. Made up the laps and finished 16th.

8-13- AMD @ the Glen-Not the kind of finish we are looking for. Keep messing around and Jeff will miss the chase again. Stands 9th in the points after his 13th place finish.

8-20- GFS Marketplace 400-Finished 2nd! A few more laps and Jeff might have won this one! There would have been another duel with the winner, Matt Kenseth! With the way this season is going, 2nd is a win! Moves into 6th in the points.

8-26- Sharpie 500-Looking good! Finished 5th. Moved up to 5th in the points.

9-3- Sony HD 500-Another 5th place finish! Moves into 4th in standings. Had the car today, but a miss cue in the pits cost this race. Loose lug nuts, who is at fault here?

9-9- Chevy Rock and Roll 400-31st place finish. Barely makes the chase. Jeff starts 9th in the chase. Will Jeff win his 5th championship? I hope so, but doubtful. If the last 10 races are like the rest of this up and down season, then we'll just have to wait until next year! Quit over adjusting the car. To many track bar adjustments. Try some air pressure adjustments instead.

9-17- Sylvania-Finished 3rd! Moves to 4th in the chase! Will have to keep running like this to have a chance to win the championship. One bad week and it's all over. Tony Stewart was running his mouth again! Saying he didn't want to take anybody out and ruin their chance for a championship! Yeah, right! Since when has Tony cared for anybody except his self? Do you think he can run the last 9 races without taking someone out? No way! It will happen!

9-24- Dover 400-Finishes 3rd! Started on the pole for first time this season and 47 races. Moves to 2nd in points only 6 points out of 1st! If Jeff can keep this up, it could be Championship number 5! Still a long way to go! Next week will be the one track where the worse could happen, Talladega. This one scares me! Get past next week in good shape, Jeff may go all the way.

10-8- Banquet 400-39th place finish after running decent all day then having a fuel pump problem 30 laps from the end of the race. Drops in point standings to 6th, 120 points out of 1st. Not insurmountable, but it will be tough. Need some bad luck from the guys in front of him.

10-1- UAW-Ford 500-Caught up in the big one! Finished 36th and dropped to 7th in the chase. 6th DNF. Only lost 27 points. Can not afford another bad day.

10-14- Bank of America 500-Engine failure! That about ends Jeff's chance at the championship. Ran in top 5 for most of race and lost the engine with 33 laps to go. Drops to 10th in points 216 out of 1st with 5 races to go.

10-22- Subway 500-Finishes 5th. 141 points out of the the lead for the chase. Not looking good. Not impossible, but highly improbable.

10-29- Bass Pro Shops 500-Finishes 6th and moves to 7th in points but 146 points out of 1st. Still not mathmatically out of it, but still could move up in the standings.

11-5- Dickies 500-Finished 9th. Jeff is now 157 points out of 1st with 2 races left. There will be no Championship this year unless something drastic happens over the next 2 weeks.

11-12- Checker 500-Starts on the pole, finishes 4th. Jeff is eliminated from the chase, 167 points out in 6th place.

11-19- Ford 400-
