GONDORO PEAK AND THE HUSHE VALLEYThe route to the Mashabrum base camp leads through the idyllic Khapulo and Hushe villages, whose inhabitants embody the hospitable Balti lifestyle. Surrounding these villages are the jagged peaks of the Karakoram. Masherbrum Glacier is easily bridged and Masherbrum Base Camp gives the trekker a clear understanding of why Masherbrum is better known as "The Day of Judgment". Masherbrum (7805 M), and its satellite peaks, form the watershed between the Baltoro Glacier and the Hushe Valley to the south. Above Hushe Village the main valley is subdivided into five glaciated tributaries and the head of one of these, the Gondokoro Valley, host the peak known as Gondoro Peak. This 5650 meter peak presents the perfect challenge for the accomplished trekker or hill walker seeking a first Himalayan summit, as it is located in the heart of the Karakoram and offers an ascent with little in the way of technical difficulty or objective danger.
