Gennady Rozhdestvensky

Gennady Rozhdestvensky was born in 1931. He graduated from the Moscow Conservatory in two specialties -piano and conducting. While still a student twenty, he became probationer conductor at the Bolshoi Theatre. He was first perfomer of many products of soviet composers. With USSR Ministry of Culture Symphony orchestra he records all symphonies of: Shostakovich, Glasunov, Bruckner, Schnitke, Onneger, Williams.

His discography is totalled more by than 200 disks.He conducts world's best orchestras: Konzertgebau,Chicago, Clivlend London Symphony Orchastra, Berlin Philharmonic orchestra and many others.

 

He headed orchestras:

1961-74 Moscow Radio and Television Orchestra

1965-70 Bolshoy Theatre's orchestra

1974-85 Chamber Theatre's Orchestra

1974-77 Stockholm Philharmonic Orchestra

1978-81 BBC Orchestra

1980-82 Wiener Symphonic

1983-91 USSR Ministry of Culture Symphony Orchestra.

Now, He heads Royal Stockholm Philharmonic Orchestra.
