Short Sketches for Diabetes Education
Welcome to the Therapeutic Theatre Webpage. This page was created to give Diabetes Educators a fun and insightful alternative to traditional teaching methods. Therapeutic Theatre is an educational tool, created by Susan Taylor, P. Dt. CDE, that combines drama, information, humor, and life experiences into several short sketches which become a very powerful diabetes teaching aid. The skits were developed from stories told to the Diabetes Education staff.

With help from her co-workers Lois MacDonald, R.N., Sharon Olson, P. Dt., and her husband Gerald, Susan compiled fifteen short skits into an easy to read manual that presents diabetes education in a refreshingly new way. The New Waterford Diabetes Education Program was where Susan obtained stories and life experiences, in living with diabetes, that provided much of the material for the sketches. Bayer Inc. provided the initial funds for this project through its Bayer Award for Educational Product Development. A lot of time and energy went into this project and she would like to thank everyone who contributed for their support.

turned into a single theatre setting.
This web site contains a lot of information about the manual. The Therapeutic Theatre Introduction gives a brief summary of the manual and the Guide to Sketches is a table of contents which lists the sketches by name and gives a brief description. The Therapeutic Theatre Evolution is an article written by Susan Taylor which describes, in detail, how this manual came about.
