This is just a note to say that this Ian Collins site has now closed. I have not been a fan of the show for many months now, and I thought it was time i scrapped the site, I would just like to say thanks to all ofyou who have visited my site and signed the guestbook since it was set up in April 1998.
I felt that Ian Collins show had been going downhill shortly before Kelvin McKenzie took over Talk Radio, I carried on listening a little while after the take over but in my opinion it just got worse. It was aas if Ian had changed his show to suit Kelvin, and to suit the kind of show he would want. I never would have thought Ian would sell out like this, I had always had great respect for him and the "if you don't like me, fuck you" attitude that he used to have. Now Ian just sounds so false.... even when he's doing funny stuff he seems to feel uncomfortable about it, is this because he's afraid of being sacked?
Anyway, Ian's worst decision was to let the Creatues go..... Mike was the first to leave, he was definately my favourite and I was sad to see him go. Then Miff and Sarah left and we were left with Pop Up Pete, who became rather annoyin, I must say, just turned into Ian's yes-man.
And the thing that *really* put me off was when he started to rip off Nick Abbot, he started playing punk music in and out of breaks, and playing Nick's effects... and.... here's the worst bit.... HE CLAIMED THAT IT WAS HIM WHO HAD PLAYED PUNK ALL ALONG! That was it for me, I lost all respect for the man who I once thought of as the greatest broadcaster ever.
I really regret having to do this page, and I really wish we could get the "old" Ian back, Ian with Miff and Mike, messing about in the studio, their irreverence and innuendo, just the whole show that made you feel good to be alive.... I miss all that, I have a compilation of all that old stuff that a made ages ago, I still listen to it sometimes and thingk "I wissh Ian was still like that", I remember Ian telling many stories of him and the Creatures going out for a beer or just hanging out, I wonder if they ever still do that? perhaps they do, and say "if only we could do all that old stuff again"..... maybe.... or not. Who knows. All I can do is sit and listen to all the old and beautiufl radio moments and recall the show that was once the best show on the air, the Old Version of Ian Colliins and the Creatures of the Night.
