African Confederation Cup
Starting from 2004, CAF have decided to cancel the Cup Winners Cup and the CAF Cup, and to organise a new competition entitled The Confederation Cup. Each country can enter the winner of its national cup. The twelve leading countries, according to a table of past performances, (the same as for the Champions League) will be allowed to enter a second team; effectively the third placed finisher in the national league. The two competitions, the Champions League and the Confederation Cup will start with 64 teams. The last eight teams in the Champions League, will be divided, as it is the case now, into two groups of four. The top two qualify for the semi final and final. The 8 teams who are knocked out from the 1/8th final of the Champions League will be integrated into the Confederation Cup and will play, in a direct elimination round after a drawing of lots, against the last eight in the Confederation Cup.  The eight remaining teams will then be divided into two groups of four. The first of each group will play the final of the Confederation Cup.
