LINKS WHICH MIGHT HELP

TRAVEL INTO IRELAND

AIR
Many carriers serve Dublin Airport.

FROM OUTSIDE EUROPE
It is often cheaper to get a fare via London, Frankfurt, Paris or Amsterdam (with or without stop-over rights). From the N. America, there are direct flights from:

FROM EUROPE
The principal European carriers are:
You can compare flight prices using Expedia or Sidestep.

TO/FROM UK / IRELAND
The websites are:

NOTE: When booking Ryan Air please read small print. Flights have baggage restrictions (10kg hand luggage (and max dimensions) and 15kg for checked luggage), are only changeable for a hefty fee, are point-to-point (i.e.do not book with connections / check through baggage etc. - even on their own flights), have no seat reservations and have limited catering. Ryan Air flights are not fixed fare and prices vary (from 1 cent to 200 Euro+) - somebody said that Tuesday evening is the best time to book but what do I know! You pay credit card booking fee, taxes etc..

SEA
You can get to Ireland by sea from Wales (Holyhead - Dublin / Dun Laoghaire, Rosslare - Fishguard, Cork - Swansea), from England (Liverpool - Dublin), from France (Cherbourg - Rosslare, Cherbourg - Dublin, Cherbourg - Roscoff) and through Northern Ireland from Scotland. The shipping copmanies are Irish Ferries,   Stena Ferries,   Cork Swansea Ferries and Brittany Ferries. Passesngers need not pre-book normally but this might be advised in July / August. Bicycles are carried for a small fee. There are family tickets from Ireland / UK to avoid tax (tax is per ticket not pax).

TRAIN
Train tickets can be purchased from British Rail and link with the ferries at either Holyhead and Fishguard. You can get details from Irish Rail and Irish Ferries . Irish Ferries offer a boat / rail ticket by zone which can be as low as € 77 return to Cardiff and London .

LINKS WHICH MIGHT HELP WITH UK TRAIN TRAVEL

ROAD (BUS)
You can buy bus tickets to Dublin from National Coach Services in the UK. There is a 545 bus service from London Heathrow (LHR) to Holyhead (ferry to Dublin) . You might also want to look at the Eurolines and Megabus websites for travel to and from London (only Euro 39.00 one way).

ROAD (CAR)
Do you really want to drive .... after a weekend of boozing? The ferries are very costly in the summer and, if you want a car, it may be cheaper to rent when you arrive. Parking the car in Dublin may be expensive and you might get the car clamped and/or towed away if you sleep in.

TRAVEL WHEN IN DUBLIN

GENERAL
Dublin has buses, taxis, a tram - the "Luas" and train services - the DART. The system is not integrated but rover tickets are available which allow unlimited travel during specific periods. You can see what's on offer from Dublin Bus , Luas and DART / Irish Rail. More details will be posted nearer the time.

FROM AIRPORT
There are many ways of getting in from the airport. The Air Coach and Patton Flyer runs from the airport to the South Suburbs. There is a flat fee of €8.00 single or €14.00 return. Dublin Bus have a number of routes from the airport at €6.00 (the 747 etc. bus routes). The 41 and 33 are regular bus services (you can use your rover ticket) and they also have a special service to main railway stations / city centre. A taxi from the airport will cost about €18.00 to the city centre. You could walk or run ..... but then you wouldn't be a hasher!

The Dublin Pass offers great deals for the Dublin tourist. It can be boughtat the airport before 2000h. The proce is Euro 35.00 (1 day), 55.00 (2 days) and 65.00 (3 days) and covers transport to and from the Airport as well as all travel in Dublin, sightseeing bus and admission to many attractions.

ABOUT TOWN
Dublin Bus run services around town and the rover ticket is to be recommended if you plan to do much sightseeing. You can also use the open top bus for a "Hop-on Hop-off" sightseeing tour but this is not covered by the rover ticket. However, see the The Dublin Pass for more information on a ticket which has travel and entrance fees combined. The DART runs along Dublin Bay and through the city centre.

OUT OF TOWN
Bus Eireann run services around Ireland.

CAR HIRE
There are the usual bunch of international car hire companies operating from the airport and from town and these can be accessed from their already high profile websites. For an alternative, the following may help:
