Welcome to Ms. Jesseau’s Grade 4 Class

When we make good choices, we all achieve success.

This is not an exhaustive list, it lists merely some ways I will help your children to develop their learner, interpersonal, and career development skills; to help them achieve success, not just in the classroom but as future members of society and to give them the tools to become lifelong learners.

Learning Skills Development

- implement routines to give students a sense of control over their learning environment.

- make agendas/planners an integral part of your classroom routine.

- incorporate entry routines so students begin tasks unprompted on a daily basis.

- designate an area of your classroom as a ‘quiet area’.

- set noise level expectations for different activities (i.e. use your 30 cm voice).

- give positive reinforcement to students when they follow routines and instructions without supervision.

Independent work

- model curiousity, risk-taking, and a positive attitude toward opportunities for learning.

- applaud students who come to you with novel ideas for learning or extracurricular ideas.

- implement an inquiry approach which allows students to select real-life topics from within a broad category (i.e. how light helps us or keeps us safe).

- incorporate cross-curricular research into your library block.

- instead of assigning students to do worksheets for homework, encourage them to do research or bring in materials to share with the class related to classroom content.

- set time aside for students to share their ideas/work.

- make it clear that the teacher doesn’t have all the answers, that all members of the classroom can teach each other new things.

- nurture an environment that allows mistakes to be made safely.

- provide options for students to choose how they will illustrate their learning, including the possibility of a self designed option (with teacher approval).
