Sabar is a dance from Senegal, West Africa. By tradition it is a dance for woman. It begin with basic structured steps and ends where you bring it. Your unique Feeling develops this very individualized Dance. Karim's Sabar Dance class combines fun and exercise with the potential to achieve professional level skill. Even more it is an opportunity to discover a new culture, rich in art, old in tradition and great in wisdom. Karim Believes in order to properly teach any form of African art, the student needs to leave his classroom, not only with the knowledge of how to physically preform the dance being taught, but why the dance was created & how it has cultural significance. Karim was born into African Art, his father, Hamidou Bangoura, is world known Choreographer and dancer for Les Ballets Africans, since 1958 he travel through the world and was a featured performer for the United Nations. His mother, Nalo Camara, was a dancer within this company. Karim is a graduate of the University of Gamal Abdel Nasser with a bachelors degree in social sciences. He has studied dance, with world known African musician, Baba Maal, of Senegal. Since his arrival in The United States, Karim has taught at Temple University and has participated in many workshops and performances such as, at Bard university and The Woodstock Day School. Karim, who's country of origin is Guinea Conakry, spent significant years in culturally rich Senegal, and traveled throughout West Africa . He arrived in the United States, while touring with les Ballets Africans, in 2005, and has established residence in the town of Rosendale, NY, under his promotional and managerial corporation, African Moon Inc. In addition to his local dance class, we are currently offering classes in dance & drum via Web Cam.
