Is Privacy an issue?
Oddly enough, many consumers would vote against a mandatory registration of electronic equipment and GPS tracking technology. Many citizens feel that the “big eye in the sky” will track a consumer’s actions and trends if they are forced to register their electronics. Some are concerned that the government will track the songs a person downloads, the websites they visit and also the ways they use their electronics. This data could potentially be sold or provided to outside companies. For example, a person who uses their cell phone 80% of the time during daytime hours, such as a realtor, could be targeted by service providers to change their cell phone plans. An iPod owner who downloads songs frequently could be targetted by online music providers. Forcing a buyer to register their electronics, while beneficial in the event of theft, also infringes on their rights of privacy
