Adelaide Destitute Asylum

When I received a family members death certificate and it stated place of death Adelaide Destitute Asylum this was the first time I had heard of it.

It then got me intrigued and I did a little bit of research on the Asylum.

I then thought it would be interesting to find out why and how he ended up there.

If anyone wants to add the names of a person to the data base feel free to email me the name and   a brief story. You can remain anonymous if you wish just add a name

May 2007  The State Archives Of South Australia  have advised me today that the Admission registers for the Destitute Asylum are missing for the years 1874-1880
They have

GRG 28/5 Register of admissions to the Destitute Asylum 1870 - 1873, 1881 - 1924

If  I hadn't gotten William Cooks death certificate I may not have known he was at the Asylum

COOK William 1795- 1875

William Cook born Maidenhead England  1795 arrived in Australia 1863.

Died Adelaide Destitute Asylum 16/4/1875.    His death certificate did not list burial place so I had to do my own research.

He was buried West Terrace Cemetery 17/4/1875

I am trying to find out how he got to be in the Asylum

I would also like a photo of his head stone if there is one
