Dear Families,

The children are doing a great job in school. They are participating in the activities and are enjoying their classmates. In Reading, we have been learning about “Our Five Senses” through fiction/ nonfiction text and are creating a tree map explaining each. Some of the books we have read are, Seeing, Hearing, Smelling, Polar Bear, Polar Bear, What do you Hear, and Big Smelly Bear. Last week, we also learned about Johnny Appleseed and his adventures. His birthday is on September 26th. The children also learned the lifecycle of an apple tree. At Reading Stations, the children are practicing recognizing their beginning sounds and sight words, are making a book called, “Shape Monster”, sequencing the story of “Johnny Appleseed” and are making an apple puppet. The sight words the children need to know 1st quarter: I, A, like, to, the, can, we, see, go, and. In reading groups, the children are working on concepts of print and 1 to 1 correspondence using our Shape Monster book.

In writing, the children are working on drawing a picture and writing the 1st sound in each word they write about their picture.

In math, we are working on recognizing, writing and making sets 0-10. The children are also working on comparing numbers using the concepts of “greater than” and “less than.” At Math Stations, the children are making a number flap book (1-5), practicing recognizing and making sets 0-10, writing their numbers and are participating in a domino activity(counting sets, 1 to 1 correspondence).

In Social Studies, we will begin learning about our American Symbols and what they stand for. Some of the symbols we will discuss are the American Flag, Statue of Liberty, Washington Monument, Liberty Bell, and The White House.

Homework Club will start on September 30th. I will send home the Homework Menu in the Tuesday Folder. Please have your child complete 10 or more items on the menu and send it back in on or before October 31st. Remember to put your initials on the activities you worked on with your child. All children who complete at least 10 activities will have lunch with Mrs. Bartolini.
