The story begin when the Baudelaire children received bad news from Mr. Poe at a beach named the Briny Beach.Their parents had died in a fire that brunt down their home as well. Mr. Poe is their parents' friend and executor of their estate and he looked after the huge sum of money left behind by the Baudelaire's parents until one of the Baudelaire orphans are old enough to inherit it. After this terrible fate,the author, Lemony Snicket, promises that the situation will get worse and there will be no happy ending. Mr. Poe found a relative of the Baudelaires to care for them. He is an evil greedy man named Count Olaf and is also an actor. In this story is a sneaky plot attempted by the Count, in order to steal the Baudelaire's fortune.
