My Heart Broke on Brokeback Mountain
I just got back from seeing Brokeback Mountain and I have to say, I was greatly affected by it. The idea that the two main characters, who were each the love of their lives, could not fully express or be in that love made my heart ache. I thought of all the love throughout history that wasn't given the chance to be expressed due to fear and prejudice, whether inside ourselves, or out in the world. How much have we each lost because of this.

I thought of all of the theaters that are refusing to play this movie, and realize that this pattern of self-deprecation continues today, in our own world, in our own country. I see it echoed in how we in the West treat Hispanics, and how the world continues to treat Black or Jews, or Hutus or any other supposed separating factor. I think of all of this energy that is being used for hate and fear and think how amazing and powerful it could be were it transformed back into love, if we were only willing to express that.....
