Rosalind's Math Group

I do not feel obliged to believe that the same God who has endowed us with sense, reason, and intellect has intended us to forgo their use.
--Galileo Galilei

Welcome to the math group website, students and parents. Everyone is welcome-it doesn't matter whether you're actually in math group or not. You can come here to find puzzles, information about the group, and links to other interesting websites.

Be sure to check out the math group weblog. I have posted some puzzles on the weblog; you can send me your solutions at the click of a button. Also, feel free to send emails to me at rosalind_diaz@yahoo.com. Thanks for visiting my website!

Interesting Websites

Kali and other geometry games
This is a great site. You can download Kali, a drawing program that explores symmetry; it doesn't take very long, and once it's downloaded you can use it anytime. It has some math games to play online, too--I recommend the torus mazes. ("Torus" is a mathematical word for a donut shape.)

Inoceramus fossil from the math group field trip
More pictures of Inoceramus
(These may take a little longer to download, but be patient--they're really neat.)

The Upside Down Puzzle

On a calculator, certain numbers look the same upside down, like 8. Others look like different numbers when you look at them upside down, such as 6 and 9. The number 6009 reads the same upside down. Find another number like this. Can you find the one that comes just before 6009? What about just after?
