The Autopsy

The autopsy procedure can be one of the most revealing processes in the crime solving world. A proper autopsy can disclose how the person died, when he or she died, and what happened to the person before they died. To conduct an autopsy, the medical examiner will prep the body to be examined. This involves putting a block under the chest, causing it to protrude and be easier to open. The clothed body is then examined for clues. This involves scraping each fingernail, as there could be crucial evidence underneath. Then, the body is unclothed and samples are taken, some of which may reveal poisoning. The body is then washed and x-rayed. The x-rays might show repeated healed fractures, a sign of abuse. Then, the dissection begins. Medical examiners often develop their own techniques, but they all collect important data that is used in solving the crime.
