Lamont Sparrow is a 2000 graduate of Fayetteville State University in Fayetteville, North Carolina. He is a native of Colerain, NC but currently resides in Fayetteville. He majored in Geography with a minor in Music Education (Voice Concentration). Lamont is currently attending Graduate School at Fayetteville State University pursuing a Master of Arts degree in English. As an undergraduate he was involved in various campus organizations to include serving as the choir manager for the FSU Concert Choir and Chamber Singers (where they have toured Europe twice); Director of the FSU Gospel Choir; founding member of the FSU Male Quartet; Vice President of the Future Alumni Association and a member of Phi Beta Lambda Business Fraternity. He also served as Administrative Resident Assistance.
Lamont was actively involved in the community as well as on campus. He has served as a volunteer at Luther “Nick” Jeralds Elementary School (currently Middle School), Ramsey Street Alternative School as a tutor and E. E. Smith High School in Special Education and the Music Department. He performed well in college despite the many hours of service he rendered to the community. He was an All-American Scholar, Four-year Chancellor’s Scholar (2000 Scholar of the Year), Chancellor’s List Scholar, Links’ Scholar, a member of the National Dean’s List Association, and was crowned Mr. Fayetteville State University 1999-2000. Lamont is currently a member of the Cumberland County Alumni Chapter of Fayetteville State University, Co-Advisor for Illusions Modeling Club and Xclusive Gentlemen Society, Assistant Coach for FSU Cheerleaders, President for Kappa Delta Pi International Education Honor Society, a 100 New Stars Volunteer, a member of the B. O. M. B. Squad (Broncos On A Mission for Broncos), and served as Mr. B.O. M. B. Squad 2004-2005.
While attending college and performing community service, Lamont appeared in the opera Ahmal and the Night Visitors as King Kasper, but his star performance came in the musical Chicago at the Cape Fear Regional Theater in Fayetteville, NC. He bedazzled the audience as Mary Sunshine while singing in high octaves.
When Lamont was asked what does he want to do after graduation? He replied “I want to teach English at the secondary level. There are so many children who I feel are not getting the proper education that they deserve. There are teachers who are teaching for a pay check and not caring for the educational outcome of our future generation. I know that teachers are under paid; I want to teach to give back to society what it has given to me. What a better way of doing so---why not teach.”
Lamont was also asked what force keeps him motivated. “There is not a force that keeps me motivated, but instead it is my personal relationship with God, my family, friends, and enemies. All four elements keep me on my feet and never letting me settle for second best. I have set goals and I plan to obtain them.”
In Lamont's spare time he enjoys reading, shopping, meeting new people, surfing the web, bowling, skating, talking on the phone, singing, dancing, going to church, watching movies, dining out, and a host of other interesting hobbies.
