Born on November 12th, 1929 in
Philadelphia, Pennsylvania,
Grace Patricia
Kelly was born the third of
four children of a
self-made millionaire. Grace’s
father, John
Kelly, inherited his fathers brick business. John Kelly’s
father immigrated Irish from Ireland. John turned his
business into a
contracting empire that afforded his children secure places in society
and private education
Grace attended Ravenhill Academy, and later in her teenage years attended Stevens School. Lizanne, Grace’s younger sister, once explained, “Our having a Catholic education was terribly important to my parents.” Athletics was another great push from Grace’s dad. Grace led a sickly childhood caused by asthma, and therefore her live centered on a fantasy she built herself. She felt in control of this world; it took her away from the abusive relationship with her parents. She could never live up to their standards and went against her Irish Catholic family's wishes in pursuit of an acting career. |
