MICHAEL IAN BLACK: Previously
best known as the voice and puppeteer of the ubiquitous canine Pets.com sock
puppet, Michael Ian Black returns for a third season as Stuckeybowl’s quirky
manager Phil in NBC’s humorous drama “Ed.” Black’s television career took off when he co-created and starred in MTV’s sketch comedy show “The State.” He followed that up with a stint on the TV cable satire “Viva Variety,” in which he co-created, executive-produced, wrote and starred as Johnny Bluejeans. He also guest-starred on “Spin City” and “NYPD Blue.” Black is creator and co-host, with David Wain and Michael Showalter, of the weekly nightclub show, “Stella,” which has played to sold-out audiences in New York since its inception in January 1997. “Stella” has spawned a series of short films and a pilot for the VH-1 cable network. He also recently appeared in the VH-1 “I love the 70’s and 80’s” series. Black appeared for the first time on the big screen in the independent feature, “Wet Hot American Summer,” with Paul Rudd and Janeane Garofalo. While on hiatus from “Ed” in the summer of 2001, the actor hosted NBC’s reality series “SPY TV.” Black currently lives in New York with his wife Martha, and their two children. When not on the set of “Ed,” he says he spends nearly all of his time trying to decide what color to paint his dining room. His birthday is August 12. |
| MICHAEL SHOWALTER:
Michael Showalter was born
in Princeton, NJ on June 17, 1970. Mike graduated from Brown University and
made friends at NYU with the crew who formed NY-based comedy troupe, The State,
in October 1988. Most notably, The State created, wrote, edited, produced,
and starred in the much-loved MTV series "The State." According to
the official State website, a State DVD collection is currently in the works. Showalter is one of the geniuses behind Wet Hot American Summer (2001). Mike co-wrote and starred in the epic summer camp film, co-written and directed David Wain. Mike also co-wrote a stage play with State troupe members Wain and Lo Truglio Sex, a.k.a. He played supposed trouble maker Lionel Prichard in Signs. He also had a small role in Kissing Jessica Stein. Mike played Chip in Operation Midnight Climax. Up next: According to an interview with David Wain: "Mike Showalter and I wrote a movie called 'They Came Together' which is a spoof of NY Romantic Comedies that will hopefully be made by Universal." DAVID
WAIN: David Wain (SEX a.k.a. Wieners and Boobs) is
a New York-based filmmaker and comedian. He first gained attention as a member
of The State, a comedy troupe that enjoyed an acclaimed series on MTV. He
is also the director and co-writer of Wet Hot American Summer, a 2001 feature
film starring Janeane Garofalo, David Hyde Pierce, and Molly Shannon. He continues
to divide his time between feature film, television, and live theater projects
as a writer, director, and performer. A native of Shaker Heights, Ohio, he
currently lives in Manhattan.
