Blaxploitation of African American Minorities in the Movies

Although African Americans were set free by the Thirteenth Amendment, with citizenship guaranteed by the Fourteenth Amendment, and given the right to vote by the Fifteenth amendment, the freedmen were generally expected to fend for themselves. The 15th amendment was the beginning of a struggle for equality, as they began to participate in fully American public and civil life, such as entertainment industries. Although granted the same rights as whites, African Americans were still discriminated by employment industries. Despite their small roles in the movie business, blaxploitation was commonly depicted and influenced through the screen. Blaxploitation is a genre of American film featuring African American actors, frequently criticized for negative stereotypical characterization and glorification of violence.
