HISTORY
The Labrador Retriever originated in Newfoundland in the early 19th Century. Fishermen then brought the dogs to Britain. Several kennels in Britain began to develop and refine the breed for the perfect gundog. The breed gained a separate registration under the British Kennel Club in 1903.
The Labrador was imported to the United States during WWI.
