Kazaa Wireless v0.40c: ===================== Kazaa Wireless provides mobile capable brains to your Kazaa Lite K++, or Kazaa Media Desktop application. With Kazaa Wireless you can get direct access to Kazaa anytime, anywhere using any kind of mobile device. Kazaa Wireless requires: o Windows 2000/XP (or better) o IIS version 5 or higher (it's already included with Windows 2000/XP) (its the World Wide Web Server of IIS that Kazaa Wireless requires) o MS .Net Framework 1.1 (it's already included with the install) o Kazaa Lite K++ or Kazaa Media Desktop application ** VERY IMPORTANT INSTALLATION NOTICE ** PLEASE MAKE SURE TO HAVE IIS INSTALLED *BEFORE* INSTALLING THE .NET FRAMEWORK 1.1. IIS ALREADY COMES WITH WINDOWS 2000 OR XP ALL YOU HAVE TO DO IS TURN IT ON VIA THE ADD/REMOVE WINDOWS COMPONENTS (OF ADD/REMOVE PROGRAMS). IF YOU FAIL TO DO THIS ASP.NET WILL NOT BE MADE AVAILABLE TO KAZAA WIRELESS AND THUS KAZAA WIRELESS WILL NOT FUNCTION CORRECTLY! THIS IS OF UPMOST IMPORTANCE ON THE COMPUTER WHERE YOU INSTALL "KAZAA WIRELESS - MOBILE WEB". SO, ONCE AGAIN, DON'T FORGET TO HAVE IIS INSTALLED *BEFORE* INSTALLING THE .NET FRAMEWORK 1.1!! ** VERY IMPORTANT INSTALLATION NOTICE ** Installation Procedures: ======================== There are two setup files that are part of the installation package: o Setup - Kazaa Wireless (Web).exe o Setup - Kazaa Wireless (Config).exe Both setup files must be installed if Kazaa Wireless is to function correctly. It doesn't matter which of these setup files you run and install first, as long as you run both files. The reason why they aren't bundled into one setup executable is for the plain fact that they both install uniquely different, yet related things. Read on ... The "Setup - Kazaa Wireless (Web).exe" installs the Mobile Web portion of Kazaa Wireless. It is this install that mobile devices communicate with directly. This install must be placed on the host computer that provides IIS web privileges. For most people this will likely be the same computer they have their Kazaa application already existing on. If it isn't then you must take this install file to the system that does contain the appropriate IIS privileges and install it there. The "Setup - Kazaa Wireless (Config).exe" installs the Configuration Window portion of Kazaa Wireless. Once installed you use it to start and stop Kazaa Wireless, as well as configure custom details that mobile devices will use and see once connected to Kazaa Wireless. This config window is the first thing you must launch to get access to Kaza Wireless through your mobile device. It must be installed on the same computer system that you have (or plan to have) Kazaa Lite K++ (or Kazaa Media Desktop) running on. This config window communicates with this Kazaa application and relays this information to and from mobile devices. More specifically, it relays the information executed and collected to and from the Mobile Web portion of Kazaa Wireless. That being said let's begin the installation process: INSTALLING "Setup - Kazaa Wireless (Web).exe": ============================================== 1. Because it doesnt really matter which of the install files you launch first i have decided to launch the "Setup - Kazaa Wireless (Web).exe" file first. Go to the computer system (if it isnt this system you are reading this from) that has IIS web privileges and copy the "Setup - Kazaa Wireless (Web).exe" to it. Now: > Double-Click the "Setup - Kazaa Wireless (Web).exe" file. Note: If you do not have .Net Framework 1.1 the install will inform you of this and automatically usher you to a site where you can download this package and install first. This setup file cannot run without it. It should also be noted that you must have IIS v5 (or better) on this computer system or the setup file will not run as well. 2. The "Kazaa Wireless - Mobile Web" Setup Wizard dialog window will appear. > Click the "Next" button to begin. 3. The next screen is the "Kazaa Wireless - Config Window Location". You must enter the host computer name (or network visible ip location) where you have installed (or plan to install to) the "Setup - Kazaa Wireless (Config).exe" file. For this install i plan for the Mobile Web and Config Window to be on the same system (this computer) so i leave the default value of "localhost". > Click the "Next" button. 4. The next screen is the "Select Installation Address". This is where you provide the virtual directory that the Kazaa Wireless - Mobile Web will be installed into. This virtual directory name (default to "kw") is what makes up your URL on how you contact Kazaa Wireless so its best to keep it as short as possible (to save in tedious typing on your mobile device). I'll keep the defaults of virtual directory "kw" and port "80". > Click the "Next" button. 5. The next screen is the "Confirm Installation." > Click the "Next" button to begin the install process. 6. If all goes well you have now successfully installed the "Kazaa Wireless - Mobile Web" portion of Kazaa Wireless. INSTALLING "Setup - Kazaa Wireless (Config).exe": ================================================= Once you have installed the "Kazaa Wireless - Mobile Web" portion of Kazaa Wireless (by running the "Setup - Kazaa Wireless (Web).exe" file) you have completed 50% of the job. The next and final step is to launch and install the "Setup - Kazaa Wireless (Config).exe". This file installs the "Kazaa Wireless - Config Window" of Kazaa Wireless. It is what starts and stop Kazaa Wireless as well as control the in's and out's of your interlinking Kazaa application. Before running this setup file you must make sure to install it on the same computer system that contains your Kazaa application. This can either be Kazaa Lite K++ or Kazaa Media Desktop. (Continuing the install process from above) 7. Make sure that you launch and install the following setup file on the same system that you have your Kazaa application on. > Double-Click the "Setup - Kazaa Wireless (Config).exe" file. 8. The "Kazaa Wireless - Config Window Setup Wizard" welcome screen appears. > Click the "Next" button to begin. 9. The next screen is the "Kazaa Wireless Internet Visible Location". This is where you indicate the host or ip location along with its directory path (known as the "virtual directory") of where you had ran and installed the "Setup - Kazaa Wireless (Web).exe" file. For this demonstration install i ran the "Setup - Kazaa Wireless (Web).exe" file on "localhost" (this computer) and left the defaulted virtual directory as "/kw" (using port 80) and so the following defaulted details displayed on this screen shouldn't be changed. Note: By leaving the host location as "localhost" tells Kazaa Wireless that this system's ip, web visible location should be determined when it begins "listening" for mobile devices. This is useful if you have a dialup connection where your ip address may always be changing. > Click the "Next" button. 10. The next screen is the "Select Installation Folder". This is the file path location where the Kazaa Wireless - Configuration Window will be installed to. > Click the "Next" button. 11. The next screen is the "Confirm Installation". > Click the "Next" button to begin the install process. 12. If all goes well you have now successfully installed the "Kazaa Wireless - Config Window" portion of Kazaa Wireless. If you have been following each of these demonstration install steps then you have successfully installed the entire Kazaa Wireless package and should be ready to go! Launching Kazaa Wireless: ========================= Go to the computer system where you had installed the "Kazaa Wireless - Config Window" (the "Setup - Kazaa Wireless (Config).exe was installed at that location). and click the "Launch Kazaa Wireless" desktop icon. Alternatively, make your way into your "Start" menu and go to your Programs folder group, open the "Kazaa Wireless" folder, and click "Launch Kazaa Wireless". The Kazaa Wireless Configuration Window should pop up. It is this window that you use to start and stop Kazaa Wireless. When it is not running (and not listening) no mobile devices can use Kazaa Wireles. You must make sure to not only launch this application but click the "Start Listening!" button found at the top of this window before any mobile devices can communicate with your Kazaa application. Please refer to the "ReadMe.txt" files found inside their respective installation directories for more details on how to use the configuration window.
