Sleeping with Severe Tendinitis
If you have tendinitis in both of your arms it would be advisable for you to sleep lying on your back as much as possible. However, make sure that you don't place your arms on your chest or stomach while you sleep as the rising and falling of your chest will really pull on your tendons all night. Try to place your hands on your pelvis and support your elbows with something soft. They probably won't stay there throughout the night as everyone moves around while they sleep, but it's worth the effort nonetheless.
Sleeping on your side won't present a problem if only one arm is affected. Don't sleep on the affected arm and have it rest on a big pillow. The ideal posture for this is to have a bend in the elbow, without causing a bend in the wrist or a straightening of the fingers.
Many people find it very difficult to fall asleep on their back [As a side note, this could relate to having a terrible mattress or neglecting to stretch your back regularly]. If you have to sleep on your side, and both arms have tendinitis, you have to be careful not to sleep with your arms in positions that aggravate the injury. I personally think this is virtually impossible, but is only a significant problem if your tendinitis is very severe. A large, fluffy extra pillow can be used to help position your arms in a sleeping position that will minimize the aggravation to your injury.
Sleeping on your stomach is horrible for tendinitis of the arms, and your back and posture in general.
