Point
System: Points
to be given in all classes (except
classes not eligible). Rider must show 4
out of 6 shows for eligibility, points are accumulated throughout the
season
towards an end of the year award.

THE
JEFFERSON COUNTY TRAIL RIDERS CLUB OR MEMBERS WILL NOT
BE RESPONSIBLE FOR ANY LOST OR STOLEN PROPERTY OR ANY ACCIDENTS.
OPEN PLEASURE DRIVING: A pleasure driving class in which entries are
judged
primarily on the suitability of the horse to provide a pleasure drive. To be shown both ways of the arena at a walk,
slow trot, and may be asked to strong trot.
To stand quietly, both on the rail and while lined up, and to
rein
back. All entries may be worked both
ways of the arena at any gait requested by the judge and may be asked
to
execute a figure of eight of pivot from stop.
To be judged: 70% on performance, manners and way of going of
the
horse(s); 20% on the condition and fit of harness and vehicle; 10% on
neatness
of attire. This class is open to all
equine types, such as ponies, mules, donkeys, miniatures, etc. Open to single or teams.
WEANLING AND YEARLING HALTER: Open to all breeds weanling or yearling, papers
or proof
of age in hand. Can cross enter in only
one other halter class. Horse to walk to
judge and trot away, line up according to the Ringmaster’s instructions.
OPEN MODEL HALTER: Open to all non-stock type horses, Gaited,
Arabian, Saddle
Type, color breeds, etc. Horses walk to
judge and trot, gait away, line up according to Ringmaster’s
instructions.
WESTERN HALTER: Open to any horse of western type breeds, horses
walk to
judge and trot away, line up according to Ringmaster’s instructions.
PONY HALTER: Open to all ponies 54” and under, a spotter is
allowed in
the arena with an exhibitor under age 12, for safety.
Pony to walk to judge and trot away and line
up according to the Ringmaster’s instructions.
Ponies will be measured and recorded by name and measurements
before first
show.
PEE WEE SHOWMANSHIP: (Rider 12 &
under), SHOWMANSHIP: (Rider 13
and over): These classes will
have a pattern posted throughout the season.
The exhibitor is to be judged, the horse is a prop to show the
ability
of the exhibitor. Points are on the
appearance of the horse and exhibitor and showing in the arena. May be asked to lead at a walk, trot, 360
degree turn, 180 degree turn, back and pose your horse.
Points on rider.
YOUTH GAITED PLEASURE: (Riders 18 and under), Open to any gaited
horse, light or
heavy shod acceptable, bands allowed, no pads (including wedge pads),
maximum
of 8’’ shank on bridle, shown naturally, no special apparatuses. Shown at a walk and favorite gait. Judged on the way of going suitability as a
trail mount. Tack optional.
JUNIOR HORSE WALK TROT: Open to all stock type horses 5 years of age or
under with
any age exhibitor. The horse may be
shown with a bit, snaffle bit or bosal.
Horse shown at walk and trot and asked to back.
Western attire and tack required. NO
whips allowed. Proof of age
required. Jr. horse can not be shown in any other pleasure or english
class.
LEADLINE: (Open to any youth
6 and under.) Judged on rider's
ability. Leader to provide safety only,
leadline to be loose. Show at a walk
both ways of ring and may be asked to back.
May not cross enter any other class except halter.
Points on Rider.
FLAG RACE: SENIOR (ages 19
and over), YOUTH (ages 13 through
18), PEE WEE (ages 12 and under).
Two 5 gallon buckets filled (within 3 inches from the top), with sand
resting
on the top of two barrels (barrels are to be placed next to the arena
fence,
one barrel or pole to mark the course.
Barrels with sand buckets are set along the fence 30’ from the
starting
line. Rider may run the pattern in either
direction, but must pick up the flag and deposit the flag from one
bucket to
the other. Pointed end of flag must be
deposited completely into the bucket.
Disqualification:
Dropping the
flag during the race, Striking the horse with the flag, knocking over a
barrel(s), knocking the bucket(s) off the barrel, flag tip not in the
bucket.
In the event of a timer malfunction a re-ride will be given, the rider
must
again successfully deposit the flag in the bucket.
PEE WEE WALK TROT: (Rider 12 and
under). Horse or pony shown at a walk and trot, may be asked to back,
will be
judged on riders ability. Points on
Rider. Rider not eligible to show in any other pleasure or English
class.
English or western tack and attire is appropriate.
OPEN ENGLISH PLEASURE: Open to any horse or pony, any age rider, shown
at a walk,
trot and canter. May be asked to
back. Hunt seat or saddle seat attire
and tack required.
PLANTATION CLASS: Open to any gaited horse, any age rider, light
or heavy
shod acceptable, bands allowed, no pads (including wedges), and maximum
of 8’’
shank on bridle. Shown naturally, no
special apparatuses. Shown at a walk and
running walk. Tack optional.
OPEN ENGLISH EQUITATION: Open to any horse or pony, any age rider, shown
at a walk,
trot and canter. May be asked to extend
trot, post with no stirrups, hand gallop, and back.
A pattern will be posted throughout the
season. Hunt seat or saddle seat attire
and tack required. Points on Rider.
OPEN FOX TROT: Open to Fox Trotters only, any age rider. Shown at a walk and a Fox Trot.
No special apparatuses. Tack
optional.
ADULT WALK TROT: (Rider 19 and
over), Horse shown at a walk and trot, may be asked to back, will be
judged on
riders ability. Points on Rider. Rider not eligible to show in any other
pleasure or English class. English or
western tack and attire is appropriate.
NON STOCK HORSE OPEN PLEASURE: (Open to any age rider), Open to any non-stock breed (Morgans, Arabians, Saddlebreds, etc.). Shown at a walk, trot and canter and may be asked to back. English or Western tack and attire is appropriate. Horse not eligible to show in any other Western Pleasure Class or Walk/Trot. May show in English classes. Purpose and intent of this class is to have a western pleasure class for non-stock type horses to compete.
BARRELS: SENIOR
(ages 19 and over), YOUTH (ages 13 through 18), PEE WEE (ages 12 and under), Three
barrels to be placed in a triangle with the 1st and 2nd
barrels opposite from each other and 20’ from the fence, 30’ from the
starting
line and the 3rd barrel should be 30’ from the end of the
fence. Pattern ran in left or right
direction.
A 2
second penalty for
each barrel
knocked down. Disqualification: Breaking the pattern or hitting the horse in
front of the saddle. May palm the
barrel.
LIGHT SHOD COUNTRY PLEASURE: Open to any gaited horse, any age rider,
Maximum 3/8” x ¾”
shoe size. No pads (including wedge
pads), maximum of 8’’ shank on bridle, shown naturally, no special
apparatuses. Shown at a walk and
favorite gait. Judged on the way of
going suitability as a trail mount. Tack
optional.
YOUTH WALK TROT: (Rider 13 through 18): Horse or pony shown at a
walk and
trot, may be asked to back, will be judged on riders ability. Points on Rider. Rider not eligible to
show in any other pleasure or English class. English or western tack
and attire
is appropriate.
MYSTERY CLASS: Class and rules to be announced the day of the
show.
SENIOR WESTERN PLEASURE: (ages 19 and over), YOUTH (ages 18 and under),
OPEN (open
to all age riders). Open to any western
type breed of horse. Shown at a walk,
trot, canter, and asked to back. Western
attire and tack required. No whips
allowed.
POLE BENDING: SENIOR (ages 19
and over), YOUTH (ages 13 through
18), PEE WEE (ages 12 and under), To
run pattern around 6 poles, each pole 21’ apart and the first pole 21’
from the
starting line. This is a timed event and
the horse may use the right or left pattern.
There is a 2 second penalty for knocking down the pole. Touching the pole is allowed.
Disqualification: Not
following the pattern or hitting the
horse in front of the saddle.
PEE WEE/YOUTH WESTERN PLEASURE: (ages 18 and under), OPEN (open to all age
riders). Open to any western type breed of
horse. Shown at a walk, trot, canter, and
asked to
back. Western attire and tack
required. No whips allowed.
OPEN GAITED PLEASURE: (Open to any age rider), Open to any gaited
horse, light or
heavy shod acceptable, bands allowed, no pads (including wedge pads),
maximum

EGG & SPOON:SENIOR/YOUTH: (ages 13 and over), PEE
WEE (ages 12 and under) Riders must keep the egg on the spoon
(without
holding onto the egg) while following the judges directions.
Contestants
may not enter the ring at a run for any of the
classes. All horses will be assigned a
number by the club. Riders will not
crowd their horses around the gates or the announcer’s booth. Riders must be ready to enter the ring when
their class is announced (unless a 3 minutes tack change is needed). In all speed events the exhibitor will give
his/her assigned number to the gate official before entering the ring. The judge or club officer will view the
timer during timed
events and call out the time.
