November 22, 2003, the Montreal Canadiens and the Edmonton Oilers held an event that will be marked in the NHL history for ever.

The held a outdoor hockey game at the Commonwealth Stadium in Edmonton with a sell out crowd of 57,167. Preceding that game was the MEGASTARS GAME , which was a reunion of the alumni of both the Montreal Canadiens and the Edmonton Oilers.

The Edmonton Oilers alumni team included, Wayne Gretzky, Mark Messier, Kevin Lowe, Grant Fuhr and many other legends.

On the Canadiens roster we found legends like, Guy Lafleur, Larry Robinson, Guy Lapointe,  Steve Shutt. (Click for rosters of both teams).

Unfortunately the Habs couldn't come out of this one victoriously as they lose the game 2-0. Despite the lost it was a great game to watch and fun for the fans and especially the players, and a great event that will put November 22, 2003 in the history books.

Montreal Canadiens goalie Jose Theodore blows some steam

Despite the lost of the Alumni Habs, the real Montreal Canadiens walked out of Commonwealth Stadium defeating the Edmonton Oilers 4-3.

Yanic Perreault and Richard Zednik each scored two goals for the Canadiens.

With temperatures hitting -20 Celsius at game time, players insulated themselves with sweatshirts under their team sweaters. Montreal goaltender Jose Theodore sported a Habs toque with a red and blue pompom over top of his mask, but the cold didn't seem to phase him. Theodore made 34 saves for the Canadiens.

The Habs -Oilers game easily surpassed the previous record attendance of 28,183 for a Philadelphia-Tampa Bay playoff game in 1996.

One drawback to the game was the ice surface. The frigid temperatures made it chip easily. However it was still a great show and a one in a lifetime experience for all the players and fans.
