We are a small family run hobby farm located in the
Vulcan area of southern Alberta. Our selective healthy herd of Myotonics
(also known as fainting goats - nervous goats - stiff-legged goats -
mountain ghosts) come in a variety of coat colours ~ patterns and coat lengths ~ either brown/marbled or blue
eyed ~ horned and range in size from medium to large. All of
our goats are registered through the International Fainting Goat Association,
(IFGA) and through Pedigree
International (PI). You may view
all of our current stocks pedigrees by joining the fainters.net pedigree
project at www.fainters.net. This
is an excellent web site for pedigree information and the best part is
– anyone can view it or – upload pedigree information ~ we highly
recommend it and use the site on a regular basis. We are pleased to have
lines from all across Our first introduction to the Myotonic goat was in 1999 with the purchase of our eldest doe "Sassy". Because of Sassy's gentle - docile temperament ~ excellent mothering skills and low maintenance care, we decided to sell all of our other various breeds of goats and focus on the Myotonic breed only. Please view our description page for an in-depth description of the Myotonic goat. We are now in approaching our fifth year of raising this truly unique breed of goat and have thoroughly enjoyed every minute of it. Throughout the last five years, we have gained a great deal of knowledge by corresponding with many excellent breeders across Canada and the USA ~ we have also made many new friendships along the way as well. We will continue to educate ourselves about this rare breed of goat as we feel it is important for the future of the Myotonic breed. Our goats are dewormed
twice a year or when needed and hooves are trimmed regularly. During the
winter months, their diet consists of good quality grass/alfalfa mixed
hay. In the summer months or when available, they are turned out to the
pasture where they can browse and forage. Salt and minerals are provided
free choice year round. We do not give our goats any concentrates as
they have managed very well without them. We will continue to focus on our own line of breeding quality Myotonics and like last year – we will retain almost all of the doe kids born. We will watch these kids grow into yearlings and then decide who we keep from there. We can see the improvements in these 2007 kids compared to last years kids and will continue to focus on improving the breed from there. On occasion we do offer breeding quality bucks and does to existing breeders looking for new lineage or – to folks looking to start their own herds. Keep checking the sales page to see if any of our stock is offered for sale. Or, if you would like to be placed on our waiting list for a breeding quality kid (especially the buck kids) – please contact us because we will be retaining most of the doe kids born here in the next few years and wethering almost all of the buck kids born. We want to improve on the quality we offer to the public and in order to do this – we will have to keep back most of the kids born and continue from them. This will take some time due to the fact that the Myotonic breed is slow growing. It is however not impossible because we can see the major improvements in our 2007 kid crops compared to our 2005~2006 kid crops (and the 2005~2006 kid crops were good ones!!). The doe kids we kept back in 2005 are now mamas and they have produced better than themselves. We do realize there is no such thing as a “perfect” goat and we are far from having a “perfect” goat however – there is always room for improvement and that is what we are striving for. So, if you prefer a buck or doe kid rather than a yearling – please get in touch with us to be placed on our waiting list because we will only be breeding a handful of our does each year (ten does maximum) and will be retaining most of them for our own herd. If we have a good doe kid crop this year – there may be some of these kids offered for sale in 2008 ~ sadly – we can’t keep them all ;o( . If
you’re just looking for a pet or companion – we offer wethers
(neutered males) only. They make excellent pets and are a pleasure to
have around. We do not sell any
does for “pets”.
