                 Aids to Christian Living

 

   Introduction: It is not enough to accept Christ and join the church,

 after that we must seek to grow in grace and become strong Christians,

 - 2 Pet 3:18.

 

I. The Bible is given as an aid to Christian growth, -

   Jer 15:16; 2 Tim 2:15; 2 Tim 3:15-17; Ps 119:9,11,105,130

 

    A. The Holy Spirit is given to teach us the Bible, -

       Jn 14:26; Jn 16:12-14.

 

II. Prayer is also a Means of Growth, - Acts 4:31-33.

 

     A. There are three kinds of prayer, -

 

         1. Private prayer, - Matt 6:6.

 

         2. Family prayer, - Jer 10:24-25; Philemon 2.

 

         3. Social, or public prayer, - Matt 18:19-20.

 

III. Regular church attendance makes strong Christians.

 

      A. It is pleasing to God, - Jn 4:23-24.

 

      B. God has commanded us not to neglict it,

         - Heb 10:25.

 

      C. It enriches our Christian lives, - Col 3:16.

 

IV. Working for the Lord is a means of strength, -

    James 1:22.

 

      A. God desires to work through us, - Phil 2:12-13.

 

      B. The greatest work is soul winning, - Prov 11:30;

         Jn 1:40-42; Jn 4:34-38.

 

      C. There is a present honor in service, - Lk 22:26.

 

      D. There is a future reward for faithful service, -

         Col 3:24; 1 Cor 3:13-15.

 

V. Christian stewardship is an aid to right living.

 

      A. There is a blessing in it, - Acts 20:35.

 

      B. It makes us stronger Christians, - 2 Cor 8:7;

         2 Cor 9:6-15.

 

VI. Good reading is a means of growth, - 1 Tim 4:13.

 

      A. Subscribe to and read good christian material.

 

      B. Read other good books and papers on the Bible.
