The Redemption
Hymn
I. The redemption hymn
A. Rev 5:9-14
"And they sung a new song,
saying, Thou art worthy
to take the book, and to open the
seals thereof:
for thou wast slain, and hast
redeemed us to God
by thy blood out of every kindred,
and tongue,
and people, and nation; and hast made
us unto our
God kings and priests: and we shall
reign on the
earth. And I beheld, and I heard the
voice of many
angels round about the throne, and
the beasts and
the elders: and the number of them
was ten thousand
times ten thousand, and thousands of
thousands,
saying with a loud voice, Worthy is
the Lamb that
was slain to receive power, and
riches, and wisdom,
and strength, and honour , and glory,
and blessing.
And every creature which is in
heaven, and on the
earth, and under the earth, and such
as are in the
sea, and all that are in them, heard
I saying,
Blessing, and honour, and glory, and
power, be
unto him that sitteth upon the
throne, and unto
the Lamb forever and ever. And the
four beasts
said, Amen. And the four and twenty
elders fell
down and worshipped him that liveth
forever and
ever.
B. Worthy is the Lamb is what they are
saying
1. The Bible is a divine textbook on
the subject
of God's Lamb
2. The Scriptures can be summarized by
three
statements
a. Isaac once asked,
(1) "Where is the
Lamb?"
(2) Gen 22:7
b. John the Baptist would later answer,
(1) "Behold the Lamb!"
(2) Jn 1:29
c. All creation will someday sing
out,
(1) "Worthy is the
Lamb."
(2) Rev 5:12
C. Two aspects of this choir
1. Its diversity
a. Both angels and humans will
participate
b. In as much as angels had
previously been
allowed to be present at the
creation of
the world (Job 38:1,4,7) and its
redemption
(Lk 2:8-14),
c. It is only appropriate that they
be permitted
to join in this celebration
2. Its universality
a. We note every creature, saved
and unsaved
alike, will give honor to the
Lamb
b. A simular passage in Phil 2:5-11
c. What these verses are saying is
no creature
has a choice concerning whether
he or she
will acknowledge the glory of
Christ, but
only how that acknowledgement
will be made.
He will either be recognized as
one's
Savior and Lord of all on earth,
or as
one's Judge and Lord of all
throughout
eternity
D. Revelation puts heaven and earth in
proper perspective
1. The scene in heaven
a. Joyful
b. Prayerful
c. Peaceful
2. The scene on earth
a. War
b. Death
c. Destruction
