the sheep has no will and must be led. i find it to be ironically accurate when the faithful are refered to as "god's flock." Church/Temple/etc, is where the ignorant go to seek guidance, because, after 2000 years of empty chants and ritual, they cannot guide themselves. every great leap foward in mankind, the industrial revolution, or space age, have all coincided with a noticeable decline in religion. this is because knowledge frees people. those who embrace the "forbidden fruit" (forbidden by a "god" because it would expose his fraudulance) and accept knowledge cannot logically accept the flawed philosophy of any religion. conversly, most major tradegies in history, stem from religion; the spanish inquisition, extermination of the Jews, 911. i don't find comfort in a "god." i see god and see the combined fears, flaws, and frustrations of humanity. this face of god scares me.
