A 50 minute documentary film directed by Mark Jeremias, "DRIVE" tells the story of Mike Vallely and his life in skateboarding. Centered on a cross-country road trip, "DRIVE" uses America's landscape as the impetus to explore Mike's views on the current state of the skateboard world, as well as reflections on what's really important to Mike and why he skates. Why Mike fights to keep his place in skating... why he fights for skateboarding.

"DRIVE" is the story of a true individual, his family, his friends, his work and his life. This will be a film to inspire and empower a whole new generation of individuals and skateboarders.

The film was shot on location in the US, Europe, and Russia. The soundtrack features Canyon, Fugazi, Golden, National Skyline, Sunday's Best, The Album Leaf and Turing Machine. The VHS and DVD releases will also include a bonus companion CD featuring tracks from Mike V and the Rats.

"DRIVE" will be available in better skate shops worldwide and online. Street Date is scheduled for March 29, 2002, with a film festival and premiere tour including spoken word performances and Q&A sessions with Mike V in major cities across America and select international locations. I had this brilliant idea to organize a trip with Pat Odell for a tour article down to Tampa for an upcoming article in Thrasher. I won't go in detail cause you should pick up the Tampa Am issue of Thrasher to read about our adventures (oh, and it's worth it believe me). Instead of giving you blow by blow I've come up with a list of words and terms that sum up our 2-week trip.


1) Lukewarm for life.
2) T.F.L.
3) Billy Marks is Hot Crew but down for life.
4) Zered Basset puked after his first run in finals.
5) Anthony Shetler is soon to be hot crew and owes me money from damages to the van
6) Dave Hoang (etnies team guy) carries 2 cameras at all times
7) Tattoos.
8) Atlanta is amazing for skating and so many good skaters (much respect).
9) Carrie is a very unique girl destined to make it big in the adult industry.
10) Josh Maready did the sickest trick to date at the Skate Park of Tampa.
11) Pat Odell is soon to be a Hot Crew photographer but will be a Lukewarm for life.
12) Sling shots and paint balls equal a lot of trouble.
13) Why did I buy a BB gun?
14) Tino Razo is in for it after the Thrasher article drops. Did I mention he had a handlebar mustache?
15) John Stockton got pop and is homeless.
16) Tampa Am contest is more than just a contest.
17) How we never got arrested once is amazing to me.

Brand New Year. Both Mike V and Elissa Steamer went to Florida for their holidays. Both spending some time with family out in Tampa and Fort Myers. All three Brazilians are in Brazil right now. Lincoln Ueda flew back with his wife and they should be home in a week and a half. Fabrizio Santos will also be back the middle of this month. Same with Carlos DeAndrade. So Elissa, Lincoln, Fabrizio, and Carlos are still on their holiday vacations but will be back and ready for the New Year!

With the Ams, Zered Basset is on a trip right now in Puerto Rico that will lead him to Tampa, Fl. in two weeks. Ryan Sheckler just had an interview come out in ESPN magazine along with Tyler Bledsoe. Ryan is preparing to go out to Tampa this month to be in the am contest along with all our other ams. Billy Marks will be flying to meet up with Craig Metzger and some NY heads, leaving NY and ending up in Tampa for the am contest. Pat O’dell from Thrasher is going on the trip to shoot photos and Team Manager Dave Hoang is going on the trip to film and to see what the East Coast guys have to offer. . Other ams that are supposed to be in Tampa are Austen Seaholm, Sean Stockton, and Stephanie Thomas.
