Jasper appears as Joseph on censuses and also appears as Joseph on the IGI index. However, Jasper is the name that appears on all certificates that have been found so far. There is also a problem with establishing where he was born. On the census it states Barnsley but this cannot be relied upon as it appears both Jasper and his wife were illiterate.
