POETRY
I get my ideas from things I've observed over the years, stories that friends have told me and personal experiences. Poetry can be a window to the soul, but I don't think it's that deep. It's just another form of expression when I have something to say. Some of it is just entirely made up, but the emotion of the message is still there. You can like it or not, but we all need a way to express ourselves and this is one of mine.

BURNED BRIDGES
During all my sleepless nights
My soul cried a tear
For every time I hurt you.
The pain that I caused
Is etched forever in my heart.
I am left alone to ponder
What might have been ...
What could have been
If I had not been so foolish.
Burned bridges still smolder
As I look for a glowing ember
To guide me on the path
That I have not yet found.
I wish you well on your own journey,
And remember me not how I was,
But as the person you wanted me to be.
MY SON
Once upon a summertime
A child arrived to fill my life.
With eyes of green and smile bright
He gave my life a shining light.
He taught me patience and how to see
The world through eyes of one who's three
As we explored the vast unknown
In the park behind our home.
Time it seems goes much too fast
And playtime games are long since passed,
But the little child I will always see
Is in the man in front of me.
FINDING LOVE
Each day goes by just like the last,
The weeks and months and years.
We hope to find that precious gift,
Someone to ease our fears.
Just when we've almost given up
And think we'll be alone,
A special person reaches out
To give your heart a home.
It's hard to put the past behind
And learn to trust again,
But love's about the chance we take
To let new lives begin.
Each day we go our separate ways,
At night we come together
To share our lives and pledge the love
We hope will last forever.
MY LITTLE CORNER OF THE WORLD
My little corner of the world
Is where I go so I feel safe,
When I need to find a hiding place
From all the stress that falls on me
And makes it so it's hard to see
The beauty that is still out there
And knowing there's someone who cares.
My little corner of the world
Is somewhere I can be myself
Without the others judging me
And saying I'm not good enough.
I put up walls to stop the hurt
Of those that try to break me down.
I try to feel strong inside,
But still afraid that I might drown.

Is a special place to be,
But it's lonely just the same,
The only one who's there is me.
I'll share my special place with you
If you would like to come inside.

THERE FOR YOU
Speak to me in dreamless sleep
Before the sunlight breaks the sky.
I'll be there to comfort you
When you open up your eyes.
There's a reason we're all here,
And we're not meant to be alone.
We want someone who wants us back,
Someone that we can call our own.
WHAT'S INSIDE
Tell me how you feel inside
Since what I feel is hard to hide.
I know the things I want to say
But the words get in the way.
It's very hard to feel secure....
What's in your heart, I am not sure.
I wish that you would say to me
"I love you dear, it's plain to see".
I see the way you look at me
With soulful eyes....
How can it be that I still wonder
How you feel.
I know the love I feel is real
And I need you to feel it too.

THE POWER OF LOVE
I'll hold you while you sleep,
And safeguard all your dreams.
I promise that you'll always know
What true love really means.
I'll join you in the sun,
And shield you from the rain.
You'll find me right there next to you
If ever you're in pain.
There's a special part of you inside
That others can not see.
But I have found the real you
Who means so much to me.
WAITING
Thunder rumbles off in the distance
While lightning brightens the moonless night.
I sit on the front step waiting for you
But I know deep inside you won't be coming back.
You said that nothing lasts forever
Including your love for me.
The rain falling from the sky
Echoes the tears falling from my eyes
As I sit alone...... remembering.
And knowing that true love doesn't end,
Hoping you know that too.
HIDING MY DREAMS
Quiet places, empty spaces.
This is where I hide my dreams.
The ones I don't dare talk about,
The ones that fill my heart with hope,
The ones that keep my spirit alive.
This is also where I hide my love,
The special love I feel inside,
The kind of love that's seldom felt
Except when two hearts beat as one.
The kind of love that's always there
Even when the clouds grow dark.
I look inside the quiet place,
But I don't find an empty space
Because the space is full of love
Waiting to be claimed by the heart
That makes ours beat as one.
HONESTY
The sun warms my face
As thoughts of you warm my heart.
My mind wanders off to that special place
Where time stands still,
And I think how lucky I am
To have you in my life.
The sound of your voice soothes me,
Your gentle touch makes me melt
Into your strong arms.
This feeling doesn't happen often,
But when it does, hold and nurture it
So it doesn't fade
With the setting sun.
PURE LOVE
As the sun gently kisses the morning sky,
I slowly stretch and open my eyes
To see the one who makes me smile,
The one who makes my life worthwhile,
The one who gently dries my tears,
The one who eases all my fears,
The one whose arms I come home to,
The one who has a heart that's true.
I'll be always there for you
To hold you when you're feeling blue.
All the hurt is in the past,
My love for you will always last.
UNTOLD FEELINGS
Your eyes smile at me,
In your hands, a gentle touch,
Yet your voice speaks nothing
Of how your heart feels.
I give my heart to you,
But you don't give yours to me.
Am I a fool to lay my heart bare,
To allow it to be broken once more?
I trust you.
And only time will show if I was right.
MISSING YOU
I'm missing you
But it's not your fault.
I know that some things
Keep you parted from me.
I miss your strong arms holding me tight,
All that I have is a call late at night
Saying you're sorry
You'll see me again
When things aren't so crazy.
But you don't know when.
I try not to cry,
I miss you so much.
All that I want is your soft gentle touch.
I sit here and wait til you walk through the door,
'Cuz you are the one I'm waiting here for.
WHERE ARE YOU?
I know you're there,
Sitting and waiting
For love to find you.
Trying not to let it show,
The emptiness you feel inside.
I wait too,
Knowing you're out there
But not knowing where to look.
Hoping that fate will bring us together
To fill the void that is inside us both.
We carry on,
Trying not to speak of the pain
That comes from seeing others happy in love.
Perhaps one day......
We will join them.
ANOTHER WORLD
In recent times there was a night
When I was called back home again.
I was afraid, I fought to stay
I thought I shouldn't go away.
I thought I was still needed here
But really it was only fear
That made me fight and not go back.
I wish I had that chance again
To return to where it all began.
This time I wouldn't fight to stay
I'm not needed anyway.
I have no love to hold me tight
When they come for me in the night.
I don't know if they'll come again
To take me back, or even when.

THE HURTING HEART
I can't stop dreaming of you
Each time I close my eyes.
And when you visit me in sleep
I'm not hurt and I don't cry.
You're sitting next to me and say
"It's alright now my dear,
I still love you and want you as my own.
No pain and no more tears."
And as you kiss and hold me tight in the hand of rest,
I plead to know if this is real because it feels the best.
You say it is and then I smile until my sleeping ends.
I awake and you're not here.
My eyes fill with tears
And once again the pain begins.
WHAT IS TRUTH?
Is truth what you say, or what you don't say.
Should we speak the truth by baring our soul,
Or hide the truth by remaining silent.
Will what I feel still be true tomorrow,
Or will I discover something today that will change things.
The truth should be shared with those it matters to.
I speak the truth in sharing my love for you,
Only hoping that your truth won't hurt me.
THINKING OF YOU
When the day is over
And all that's left is the stillness of the night,
That's when I think of you.
When I feel happy
And want to share the feeling,
That's when I think of you.
When I get hurt
And need someone to comfort me,
That's when I think of you.
When you feel lonely
And want someone to hold you,
I hope you think of me.
QUIET MOMENTS
The gentle whisper of the breeze kisses your hair
As you sit on the shore listening to the waves.
You are lost in thought,
But there is a hint of a smile visible to those passing by.
You look at the sun to gauge the time
And you know it won't be long.
As I walk down the beach with my dress softly billowing behind me,
I see you sitting there.
I quietly walk up behind you
And wrap my arms around your neck.
You smile as you softly kiss me and take my hand.
Together we walk into the sunset of another day.
MISTY MOMENTS
Our time together warms my heart,
But my empty arms are cold without you.
The feelings we have will never fade with our parting,
But will continue to grow with each passing day.
I am yours and you are mine.
We are journeying on different paths,
But will soon arrive at the same destination
And join together, not be torn apart again.
Our bond keeps us strong while we are apart
And will hold us together during any struggles
We may face as we share the rest of our lives.
NOT ALWAYS EASY
We start out alone,
Waiting for the right person to enter our lives.
The person who completes us,
The person who makes us feel whole,
The person who will never let us down
No matter how tough things may get.
It isn't like going to the store --
Just picking someone off a shelf
And taking them home.
Sometimes we wait for what seems like an eternity.
Then it happens.
The person you were waiting for
Is standing right there in front of you,
Willing to give up their heart in a chance for love.
Perhaps others may question the choice,
But it is not their choice to question.
The heart knows no boundries.
The heart doesn't judge.
The heart just accepts what it feels
And hopes the feeling is forever.
NIGHT MAGIC
Alone he sits by candle light,
With one tiny flame to light the night.
He draws a circle to cast a spell,
One he knows so very well.
He calls the four corners to join and bind,
To give him strength and clear his mind.
The lightning flashes in the sky,
A surge of energy,
A mournful cry.
The candle flickers, then goes out.
There's nothing left to chant about.
The spell is cast.
He bows his head.
All energy spent,
He goes to bed.
ALONE AGAIN
When you think you've found true love
It turns its back on you.
When yesterday was rainbows,
Today is only blue.
You try so hard to understand
But nothing makes much sense,
You want to guard your broken heart
By putting up a fence.
No words can heal the pain you feel,
You don't know what to say.
Nothing's ever hurt this much,
Will it ever go away?
BROKEN DREAMS
My heart has now been torn apart
By something that won't be
It hurts so much to let it go,
It means so much to me.
With part of you and part of me
We'd make a brand new smile.
Now there's nothing left to hold,
Just another heartache for the pile.
We need our dreams to carry on
And help us make it through.
But all I have is empty arms
And all I feel is blue.
QUIET CONNECTION
Your bright eyes shine when they look at mine,
In your arms, a warm embrace.
When you smile at me it's plain to see
We're in a common place.
I feel your heart, but don't know how,
It doesn't matter how I do.
The only thing I care about
Is being there for you.
I see inside your inner self
That others can not see.
You think that they won't understand,
But it makes perfect sense to me.
MY SPECIAL SOMEONE
Just when I thought I would walk through life alone,
There you were.
Accepting me as I am
With a warm embrace and soft kisses.
Even though your own heart was hurting,
You tried to heal mine.
Together we are strong and can face the world.
I carry your smile in my heart
Until the day we can always be together.
WHY ME?
The person that I trusted most
Has drifted with the tide.
My heart has been ripped up again,
I want to run and hide.
I don't ask much of those few souls
I let into my world.
All I want is one true heart
To love this one true girl.
The pain in me is burned so deep
I don't think I can make it.
Seems when I give my heart away
It's so someone else can break it.
My eyes have cried a million tears,
Enough to fill a sea.
Perhaps if I wait long enough
True love will come to me.
IT'S OVER
I'm sitting here all alone,
My heart is full of woe.
You've given me a big surprise,
You said I had to go.
I totally am floored by this,
I thought we made a start.
But now it seems you've changed your mind
And want to be apart.
You said you wouldn't lead me on
With feelings that aren't true.
But we had shared so very much,
I grew attached to you.
The love we made,
The games we played,
The memories are clear.
But now my heart is broke in two,
Can't help but shed a tear.
"I hope we can be friends" you said.
That was your parting line.
But being friends is not the same
When love was on the line.
I shouldn't give my heart away
So easily it seems.
But I still hope there's love out there,
It can't just be a dream.
I'll find the one who's meant for me,
I know he's waiting too.
Perhaps his heart was torn apart
In a seach for love that's true.
REACHING OUT
One more time for old time's sake,
Come save me from this crazy world I made.
My dreams are weak and falling
Through this hole inside my head.
Come help me put the pieces back together.
Can't you see it in my eyes?
You're my beginning and my end,
I need you, you're my lover and my friend.
My future would be brighter if you'd only answer "yes"
And help me put the pieces back together.
Can't you see it in my eyes?
Won't you find a place for me tonight?
Find a space for me and light a corner of my lonely life.
THERE FOR YOU
When my heart is aching you are there,
When my tears are falling I know you care.
Your heart is just an open book,
I look inside to see that you just need love.
The love you can get from me.
I'll dry your tears when you are sad,
I'll laugh with you when you are glad,
I'll smack you in a pillow fight,
I'll hold you close all through the night.
I'll stick by you, I won't let go.
The reason is, I love you so.
YOUR MEMORY
The echo of your singing lurks in my mind,
The shadow of your image, it follows behind.
The sadness in your smile can be seen in my eyes,
The heartbreak in your voice can be heard in mine.
Your face so familiar can be seen in my dreams,
Your walk I see everywhere, or so it seems.
The big bright smile you gave me,
The memory is still there.
I follow the sound of your voice,
But I get nowhere.
No matter how close or how far,
My love for you will never change.
All I can say for now is
"Good-bye" and "I Love You".
I'll always remember you.
I place your letters in a special place

QUESTIONING
I'm going to write a letter,
I tried to make a call just to see how you're feeling,
If you're missing me at all.
I gotta let you know there's a want in me to see you,
And you really gotta know.
I can tell you care,
Though it's only in my head.
Don't believe all the bad hype,
We can make it if we try.
I hope you need me,
I gotta tell you so
Because this love I have inside me
Just has nowhere to go.
I've tried to face it,
But the pain just seems to grow.
Can't we try to make it work,
Or do we have too far to go?
PARTED LOVE
Trying to escape from this lonely life
With a suitcase full of dreams.
I need to see the one I love,
We know what love really means.
This rainy city really brings me down,
I need to find the sun.
When we're together it shines for us,
I know that he's the one.
I ache to hold him once again,
My empty arms are sad.
As each days drifts into the next
I know I need him back.
We need to join forever more,
The search for love is gone.
When two hearts feel the way we do
There's no way it can be wrong.
UNDER THE MOONLIGHT
As two ships passing in the night
So quietly beneath the star's soft light,
Our paths cross but now and then
Reaching out, seeking one another again.
We say hello and then we part,
Knowing we've shared a piece of our heart.
Sometimes love stays and sometimes it goes,
But I know our love will continue to grow.
I ache when you're hurting,
I cry when you're sad,
Wanting to comfort and hold you so bad.
Know that I'm waiting here with open arms
To share all your troubles and relish your charms.
I have nothing to offer but my love to send,
Strong shoulders to lean on that don't easily bend.
I offer these freely with no strings attached,
For in caring and sharing, you won't meet my match.
So on some long and lonely night
When nothing seems to go just right,
Close your eyes and think of me,
Cuz under the moon's glow is where I'll be.
NEW BEGINNING
I'll follow you down the unknown road
Until we reach the end of the rainbow.
We travel inside the arms of love
That protect us from the outside world.
Though we occupy only a small portion,
All the world is spread out before us.
We are free to dream and be what we want,
Our lives are just beginning again.
I'm free to choose, and I choose you
To share my life and share my love.
My heart beats in time with yours,
Our souls feel pain when we're apart.
The love we share is a special gift
That must be cherished and not taken for granted.
We have found each other.

Together we have a new beginning.

TO ANOTHER
You came into our lives,
You were such a brat.
You had us wonder what to do
With such a lively cat.
You used to love to run and hide
And we heard you purr when you slept by our side.
Now I know you want to play,
But all you do is sleep all day.
The pills we give you for the pain
Have made it so you're not the same.
I know we need to call the vet,
But I'm not sure we're ready yet.
You know we'll miss you, this I feel,
But it is time to turn the wheel.
Good-bye sweet cat, it's time to go,
But it's not the end, I know.
Bast is here, it's time to fly,
We will not need to wonder why.
It's just the time for you to leave,
We'll see you soon, we do believe.

For teaching us the gift of you.
GOOD-BYE
Each day flows into the next
But I hardly notice.
Reality is just out of reach
And when I think I have it,
It slips out of reach again.
I sit alone in my room
Looking out the window.
Watching all the normal people,
Knowing it won't be me.
My heart aches knowing
I'll always be alone.
I have to let go,
It isn't fair to hang on.
I only hurt the ones that care.

Crackling fireplace

Snow gently falling

SPEAK TO THE STARS
The night is still and dark,
But the gentle breeze calls your name.
I can feel your presence in the quiet of my room
When my heart calls out to you.
You don't hear me as I speak to the stars
But I know you can see them too.
We are alone, but still connected.
Thoughts of you fill my mind and heart
As I hope thoughts of me fill you.
Soon our arms will entwine as our hearts have.
But until then,
I will still speak to the stars.
THE STILLNESS OF LOVE
Springtime flowers sway gently in the soft breeze.
White fluffy clouds float by without care.
I sit by the rushing river
Listening to the birds and skipping stones.
I'm in my own private world
Alone with my thoughts
Even though you're there beside me.
I smile as you take my hand and we start walking.
No words break the stillness
Since our love speaks for us.
Together, we are as one.
BREAKUP
It's often hard.
Hard after a breakup.
Facing the loneliness.
Always seeing their face in your mind.
It often doesn't seem so,
But life goes on.
Deep down, part of the love is still there
Along with the broken heart.
The only thing that eases the pain
Is remembering the love before the hurt.
SOMEONE LIKE YOU
We were together for such a short time.
I don't know if you felt the same way I did.
A feeling that only comes when you meet someone special.
Like you.
I didn't want the evening to end,
And I wonder if I'll see you again.
I hope to see you.
I need to see you.
I have to know if we stand a chance,
A chance to develop something beautiful
With someone special.

Words and actions are so short-lived,
