There are five major categories of identifying characteristics for children who kill. These categories are situational, societal, resource availability, personality, and biological connections. Situational factors include anything from the child's home environment, parenting styles, family structure and use of drugs and alcohol. Societal factors include lack of positive male role models and heroes, violence in the media, the influence of peers, and exposure to violence. Resource availability includes easy access to guns and drugs. Personality ranges from low self-esteem to boredom. Also includes poor communication skills and poor decision-making abilities. The biological connections to homicidal children are brain damage, such as Epilepsy and Central Nervous System disorders, and learning disabilities like Attention Deficit Disorder.
