THE MEANING OF LIFE
IS A STRATEGY FOR GETTING NICE SURPRISES

Img_0028.JPG (23623 bytes)

Hi. My name is Tom Horn.

That's me in the picture. You'd never guess I was 56 years old would you? Well would you? Anyway, let's not argue about this. The fact is I've written a full length ebook and a series of FREE articles on the nature of reality. Now I fully realize that anyone who writes about reality is generally accused of being unrealistic and is urged to get out more.  If you had that knee-jerk reaction, I'm hoping you can see through it and realize that it was just your way of saying that you know all the important things about life and certainly don't want to be bothered with something unfamiliar. But do you really know the secret of life? My articles will pitch an unfamiliar view of everyday existence to you and there is no way of knowing whether you can take hold of it without letting it slip through your fingers. If you can grasp and hold on to what I tell you, there is one serious question you must ask yourself. "Do the explanations I have been given match my experience of life? Could they be realistic?" If the answer is yes, or maybe, then perhaps it is your outlook on life that is unrealistic. How strange! You thought I was at fault and it turned out to be you. Who cares, because this places you at the threshold of a more profitable approach to life.

There really is a different way of understanding the world. When you come into this new knowledge you are said to have undergone a paradigm shift. It is like 'waking up from sleep'. You might say that the whole of humanity is 'asleep' and needs to be 'woken up'. You need to be 'woken up' from a state of illusion into a more realistic view of the world. Paradigm shifts are common when we are very young. We eventually find out that we were not brought into the world by a stork and left under a gooseberry bush; that there is no Father Christmas; that our favourite heroes, celebrities and authorities have 'feet of clay'. There are also paradigm shifts to be experienced when we pass through the phases of life: from childhood into adolescence, on through adulthood, middle age, old age and finally death.  If accepted in the right spirit, the paradigm shifts that we assent to can be extremely beneficial to our physical, mental and spiritual health. When we fall asleep or emerge from sleep, these paradigm shifts also benefit us. Just try going without sleep and find out how rapidly you deteriorate. Paradigm shifts are good medicine and I'm offering you a glimpse of the most important one for free.

However, when we get older, we become entrenched in our world-views and are reluctant to give them up. We resist necessary paradigm shifts and this is why we age mentally and physically and why we wind up with strategies for living that are really outgrown and do not work anymore. The right paradigm shifts are certainly good for you, but, like all the best medicines, many don't taste very nice. You may find my articles to be unpalatable. In this case you may be moved to 'consume' something sweet, easy, mundane and valueless, like a newspaper, magazine or cheap novel.  You see, I'm looking for people who are prepared to have their outlook on life put under a little pressure. You may consider your outlook to be 'watertight', but if you have ever felt the need to defend or promote it, could this really be your attempt to stem a few 'leaks'? The articles will expose those 'leaks' for you. What could be more helpful? You might wind up realizing that the game of life cannot be won unless the rules are known. Most people imagine that there are no rules in life. But those people are 'blind'. You will read about some of the rules or hidden laws of nature in action. The content may well be somewhat controversial, or even, dare I say it, shocking to your system of thought; but I did not invent the rules of life. But make no mistake, it is a knowledge of these laws of existence or a lack of it which decides whether you lead a life of folly or a life filled with nice surprises.

I have combined the articles under the heading:
PARADIGM SHIFT.
The titles are as follows :
(1)'Why do Trees, Frogs and People Exist?'
(2)'The Hidden Law'
(3)'Virus of the Mind'
(4)'Two Fairy Tales Reveal the Secret of Life'
(5)'The Melting Pot'
(6)'The Folly of Problem Solving'

All of the above articles can be read online - just click on the titles. To save money, click on the titles in quick succession and then read them offline from your 'History' cache. They are also available in ebook format. Unfortunately, my webhost will not allow downloads of exe or zip files - but I will email it to you on request: Click to email me

Now, if you had the choice, I am pretty certain you would choose to be empowered. But personal empowerment for most means direct control over something. It means using will power, cleverness or competitiveness to control nature or your own life or the lives of others. This type of power is very enticing, but it does not lead to lasting happiness, stable conditions or peace of mind. Very few people realize that the only ‘power’ worth having is the subtle ability to use self-control to generate nice surprises. THIS IS THE SECRET OF LIFE.

Science, reason and common sense are selling us short with their description of the world. It's not really their fault because this opinionated trio has a blind spot and this unfortunate condition has led to the spread of a fundamental misconception about life. It is a misunderstanding that is propelling humanity, and each of us individually, towards some very nasty surprises indeed. The mistaken assumption is that the whole of  everyday life is unwinding through predictable chains of causes and effects. This influences you the reader of these web pages. It means that, according to common knowledge, you could not avoid reading these words. This is because a potentially knowable chain of causes and effects, starting when the world began, has led to this very moment when you are reading. Common rational understanding says that all events are predictable given enough information at a prior instant in time, together with the laws governing how things interact. All that is needed is enough data plus a computer as big as God and there need be no surprises in the world. This is the basic delusion perpetrated by science, reason and common sense.

A part of the world is indeed predictable and this was described to us at school and we later harnessed it to create all the technological things we value so much. But another part, although it appears to be full of routines, is, in truth, inherently surprising. Living things, in their relationships, participate daily in this unpredictable, self-organizing and therefore magical branch of reality. Your life might seem routine, but a principle of surprise is always stalking you. Do you take this into account? If you do not, you may be living your life on the basis of any or all of the following: rational planning, an imposed code of ethics, the dictate of circumstances, horoscopes, the instincts that promote the replication of your genes or any number of ideas or ideologies that are replicating themselves, as you read these words, through the human race. Whichever applies, you will be stalked by negative surprises.

Consider the following proverbs: ‘Pride comes before a fall’; ‘Familiarity breeds contempt’; ‘For every gain there is a loss’; ‘The road to hell is paved with good intentions’. These sayings and many others, cannot be predicted or proven like scientific laws. But they do show how life in the round produces surprising outcomes. As the proverb says, if you are a proud person you will be stalked by the surprise of humiliation. Of course the ultimate negative surprises that are stalking you and me are sickness and death. Forget the 'survival of the fittest' because there are no survivors on this planet. Perhaps you think this is a bit pessimistic. Well, please remember that a pessimist is really an optimist who has been given the facts. A comedian once made the stark Truth a lot easier to face when he asked if anyone in his audience knew what the trouble with life was. No-one did know and the jocular fellow informed everyone that: ‘The trouble with life is that we’ll all be lucky to get out of it alive!’

Proverbs are patterns of development that repeat themselves at all times and places. It is a strange fact that many of the affairs of daily life self-organize into living trends. People indulge in living trends without realizing what they are doing. There are two outcomes. Either the trend quickly encounters a compensating resistance and life gets tough - (Sod’s law: if anything can go wrong, it will), or the trend fulfils an evolutionary pattern which ends in a surprise, usually an unpleasant one. Because the conscious state of the person is a part of the living trend, the tendency itself cannot be investigated scientifically. The outcomes can only be experienced in a surprising way. This is a law of nature and it is in addition to those of science and predictability. When it is taken into account through the use of a simple and easy strategy a person gets to live in a constant state of amazement at the nice things that just happen.

You see, because everyday life is inherently surprising, no one can do anything about anything - directly. This is because all lasting good has to emerge as a surprise. The future really isn’t up to us alone as the experts say. It is as if there were different types of self-organizing ‘power’ or disembodied ‘intent’ in this world that create surprises. When you predict these 'powers' and look for them, they aren't there. But by behaving in a way that you wouldn't imagine could be worthwhile, you can tap into a type of ‘power’ that will give you more from life than you put in. You can obtain magical leverage in everything you do. This is the secret of life - the indispensable secret of personal empowerment.

It is essential to act on a Strategy for Getting Nice Surprises if a life of ‘blind’ folly and negative surprises is to be avoided. To rely on strategies of predictability is, quite frankly, a folly. When your eyes are opened to the self-organizing situations of daily life, you will be very keen to modify your awareness and intent in order to make pleasant surprises more probable. You will finally understand what it means to be empowered. It does not matter what your condition in life is, a strategy for getting nice surprises will empower you. No politician can do this for you, no system of education or physical exercise, no course in problem solving, no orthodox religion, no cult, no fashion, nobody you know, including your wise old grandparents, can empower you the way a strategy for getting nice surprises will. Even the widespread mind-controlling cults of reason, sanity and science cannot empower you. Neither can money, information technology or the most sophisticated tools ever invented. Only by deploying a magical, but realistic strategy, will you be surprised to find events in your life coming right of their own accord. The method is ancient, it is universal, it is powerful, it is out of control and, look-out, it is coming your way!

Imagine that a heavy book fell on your head. If it happened it would surely be a negative surprise and you would probably be moved to reflect ruefully on how it was that you were standing in the wrong place at the wrong time. Reason, sanity and science would call it a chance event, forgetting that these are predictable given enough information ahead of time. But Uncommon Knowledge says that the world self-organizes and things happen in ways that the human mind can never pin down. All I can say is that those who practice a Strategy for Getting Nice Surprises successfully will not be caught standing around waiting to get clobbered by the world’s unpleasant surprises. This is because they have ‘power’, they are blessed, they have luck, 'life', charisma, spirit - call it what you will. Most human beings, including myself, tend to fritter away the little that they have.

Let me say now that these web pages and a new ebook are designed to fall on you - but lightly, on your understanding and world view. In this case there is no knowing what your response might be. For example, the mental process whereby you might choose to part with some cash for the ebook is unknowable and therefore your decision must appear as a surprise. All I can do is reveal some of the hidden laws of nature, together with their principle of surprise and wait. Eventually, you, the reader, may become interested in the possibility of a different kind of life. But what is 'interest' anyway? I give away a little special knowledge and, in some people, 'interest' naturally emerges, whilst others turn away with a yawn or a gesture of frustration. There is no way in this world to predict if and when 'interest' will arise. The latter is a surprising phenomenon that rises up, all by itself, from the foundation of 'knowledge'. Hence the term 'knowledge is power'.

But if you do find yourself developing an interest in regenerating your own life or in 'saving the world', then the right way is set out in parts 1 and 2 of the new ebook entitled:

I would like to let you know that I have finished your book "Uncommon Knowledge And The Strategy For Getting Nice Surprises", and I consider it is a true masterpiece. Honestly, this is the best book that I have ever read in my life!

I am happy to inform you that the book itself is a leveraged item. It may not be written in the finest style and, almost certainly, it will not contain the last word on the subject of surprise. But the book has leverage because the personal use value of the uncommon knowledge it contains far exceeds the purchase price. In fact you can obtain the full version for less than the cost of a meal in a restaurant and get a lifetime’s ‘food’ for thought. If the special knowledge is properly ‘digested’ and acted upon, the transformation of your life will only be a surprise away.

Uncommon Knowledge and the Strategy for Getting Nice Surprises is approximately 87,000 words in length.

You will discover the following in the ebook:

11sunf.gif (7826 bytes) A text that will turn everything you ever thought about life on its head.
11sunf.gif (7826 bytes) A new, but realistic, world-view - one that cannot be grafted on to an orthodox outlook.
11sunf.gif (7826 bytes) An opportunity to reject the outmoded world view in favour of one that actually works.
11sunf.gif (7826 bytes) An explanation of the mysterious process whereby reality conspires against every person alive. It's the conspiracy theory to end all conspiracy theories.
11sunf.gif (7826 bytes) The ultimate subversive strategy for non-subversives - as described, in a metaphorical language, in ancient religious texts from all over the world. Take these religious tomes literally, as if they were the reporting of historical events, and their real message will have missed your head by about a yard.
11sunf.gif (7826 bytes) Details of the myth we are all participating in on this marvelous but 'dark' planet.
11sunf.gif (7826 bytes) A journey that will take you to the boundaries of science and then beyond into the real world of everyday life.
11sunf.gif (7826 bytes) Knowledge of the different 'levels' of functioning in everyday life and how different rules apply to each 'level'.
11sunf.gif (7826 bytes) The way daily life self-organizes into patterns that incorporate a principle of surprise.
11sunf.gif (7826 bytes) How living trends lead to negative surprises.
11sunf.gif (7826 bytes) How the world was made after the 'big bang'.
11sunf.gif (7826 bytes) How the self-organizing 'pattern' that made the world is at the 'foundation' of our own lives.
11sunf.gif (7826 bytes) The real significance of your own awareness and intent.
11sunf.gif (7826 bytes) The secret of 'consciousness' and 'life'.
11sunf.gif (7826 bytes) Why the average person fails to be self-commanding.
11sunf.gif (7826 bytes) Why free will is rarely used and when it is used, it is usually in the wrong way.
11sunf.gif (7826 bytes) The querk of human psychology that makes us project imperfect knowledge onto the world.
11sunf.gif (7826 bytes) Who your real enemies are. (Forget the terrorists and the criminals and the politicians who, without fail, do the wrong thing.)
11sunf.gif (7826 bytes) Why over-development is a folly.
11sunf.gif (7826 bytes) The golden opportunity or living challenge that life tries to present to us all.
11sunf.gif (7826 bytes) Insight into why everyone fails to meet the essential challenge of life and the consequences that follow as a result.
11sunf.gif (7826 bytes) An alternative way to make things happen. How to participate in the real magic of being alive.
11sunf.gif (7826 bytes) Knowledge of the universe's two subtle guidance systems and how to avoid the one that leads to negative surprises and use the other to get to where you want to be in life.
11sunf.gif (7826 bytes) How to accumulate 'power' or 'intent'.
11sunf.gif (7826 bytes) A new perspective on your own problems and the troubles of the world.

Well, whether you realize it or not, a ‘crossroads’ has appeared on whatever 'path' you are travelling. You can turn one way and walk back into your apparently predictable life. Or you can take the uncertain road that leads to the surprising life you were born to lead. The fact that you have come with me this far means that you could go either way. Since your decision is in no way preordained, you must now participate in the surprising life of this wonderful self-organizing world. I have led you to this parting of the ways and, as a gesture of good will, I am placing in your hands a powerful gift for use in such an archetypal situation. The gift is not will power, reasoning, imagination, or anything of that kind. It is simple CHOICE. The living trends that control the lives of everyone give you no choice. They make you think and feel as if there were only one way to respond. A genuine decision is probably required here and I am truly sorry if this is stressful. Whilst you can certainly be 'spoiled for choice', the simple rejecting of one 'road' in favor of another is an act of ‘power’. Good luck to you.

                                             Tom.

Postscript: It is easy to surprise a person negatively. Simply creep up behind them, make a loud noise and say 'Your strategy for getting nice surprises does not work'. However, this would not be a True surprise because the perpetrator would know about it in advance. There is a self-organizing 'power' in the universe that is friendly and good. This disembodied 'intent' is always trying to subvert the one-sided living trends to spring its True surprises on all the elements of a given situation. Just as this 'power' causes the beautiful golden flower to emerge from the grave of the cold damp earth in the spring, so it will induce nice surprises to emerge out of any bad circumstance. For the latter to happen, a special discipline, a Strategy For Getting Nice Surprises, is certainly necessary.

If you decide to purchase, click on the Paypal button and you should be reading Uncommon Knowledge and the Strategy for Getting Nice Surprises within 24 hours. However, it is possible that I may have decided to take a holdiday and be away from my computer for a few days. So, for your peace of mind, you could contact me first to be sure that I'm here and ready to deliver. Click to email me
