Omikoshi - shrine carrying ceremony

Teamwork
The shrines can be very heavy and up to six metres tall.
Stoicism seems to be part of the Japanese character to me.

Up close
I'm not sure how old the shrines are but, as with many things in Japan,
they are beautifully crafted.

The medium is the message
I"m not sure of the meaning of the scroll the birds are carrying. Each of the shrines was topped with a bird like this.

Pulling one's weight
The ability to commit to a common goal is one of the reasons for the evolutionary success of our species.
Japan is often criticized for its "conformity".
I'm impressed that after the destruction of the second world war
Japan has manged to rebuild its economy so quickly and so well.
