Game Review - Parasite Eve

Parasite Eve, aka the "Cinematic RPG", came out in 1998 for Playstation. It got its nickname from the nearly 90 minutes of incredibl computer animated movie sequences that distinguish this game. It's based on a horror/scifi novel written by a Japanese author, and the plot actually translates quite well into video game format. The battle system is fairly unique...it's a one-character, free-movement, semi-realtime system, and boss battles can actually be pretty challenging. PE also has really good music and a good intro. Similar to Chrono Trigger's "New Game +" feature, PE allows you to restart the game after you've passed it and keep your strongest weapon and strongest armor (which you can also name). There aren't many hours of gameplay in a normal game. After you've passed it once, however, it gives you the option of going through a very realistic Chrysler Building, complete with 77 floors. The Chrysler Building takes a really, really, really long time, and can be pretty tedious, but the final battle is worth it. Maybe.
