Sizing of feminine skirts and slacks.Sizing of clothing can be an enormous problem especially buying online or through mail order catalogues. Sizing may vary between brands but different countries also have different standards. Shopping in foreign countries may therefore be quite a challenge. In case of doubt try to ask for the local equivalent of your standard jeans size. This seems to be the most universally accepted standard and sales staff will probably be able to translate that to the local size. Be precise and specify male or female size because that usually also differs a lot. In the next table I will try to compare known equivalences of sizes in various countries (depicted by the standard letters used on cars to identify the country of registration).
Be aware with the globalization of the world economy that items of one country of origin may be marketed in different countries without specifying anything on the label. This for instance caused me to buy two slacks in the same German store at the same time, one in size 38, the other size 42 in order to fit perfectly over my jeans size 32 belly. Trial and error by fitting is still the only solution for perfectly fitting clothing and shoes.
