GENEALOGY REPORT OF MY BAYONNE BRANCH OF THE VREELAND FAMILY

(abbreviated version)
(A) Michiel Jansen VREELAND was born in 1610 in Broeckhuysen, Holland. He died in early June of 1663, in Bayonne, New Jersey
He married Fitje HARTMANS (WESSELS) before leaving Holland. She was born in 1611 (perhaps in Cologne, Germany). She died Oct. 17, 1797 in Bayonne, NJ .

After locating in Manhattan, they started their family. Some were born in New York and the later children in Bayonne, New Jersey.
They had a total of 9 children:

JANNETJE MICHIELSEN VREELAND, was born about 1643 in Rensselaerwyck, NY. She died September 11, 1714 in Albany, New York. JANNETJE married DIRCK TEUNISSEN VAN VECHTEN in 1659. They had 13 children.
ELIAS MICHIELSEN VREELAND, was born about 1645 in Rensselaerwyck, NY. He died before June 24, 1711, Bergen, NJ. He married GRIETJE WALING JACOBSE IN 1665. They had 7 children.
ENOCH MICHIELSEN VREELAND, baptised January 20, 1646 or 1647. Buried August 1724, Bergen, NJ. He married (First) DIRCKJE MEYERS in 1670. They had 8 children. (Second) GRIETJE WESSELS in 1691. (Third) AAGTJE VAN HOOREN in 1704/05. They had 7 children.
PRYNTJE MICHIELSEN VREELAND, baptised October 24, 1649 at Bergen, NJ. Buried, April 21, 1711, Bergen, NJ. She married ANDRIES CLAESEN in 1668. They had 8 children.
HARTMAN MICHIELSEN VREELAND, baptised October 1, 1651. Buried January 18, 1706 or 07, Bergen, NJ. He married MARITJE DIRCKSE BRAECKE in 1672. They had 13 children.
ARIAENTJE MICHIELSEN VREELAND, baptised March 8, 1653 or 64. Buried September 22, 1697, Bergen, NJ.
JOHANNIS MICHIELSON VREELAND, baptised October 1, 1656 at New Amsterdam. Died June 26, buried June 29, 1713 at Communipaw, NJ (Bayonne/Jersey City) He married CLAESJE DIRCKSE BRAECKE in 1682. They had 10 children.
CORNELIS MICHIELSON VREELAND, baptised June 25, 1658 in New Amsterdam. Died as infant.
(B) CORNELIS MICHIELSEN VREELAND, baptised June 3, 1660 at New Amsterdam. Died May 2, 1727, buried Bergen, NJ. He married METJE DIRCKSE BRAECKE, May 11, 1681, daughter of Dirck Braecke & Neesje Jacobs. She was born June 3, 1657 and died May 2, 1717.

(B) CORNELIS & METJE had 5 children:

(1) AAGTJE CORNELISSE VREELAND, baptised, April 18, 1682. She married ROELOF HELMIGSE VAN HOUTEN.
(2) FIFJE VREELAND, baptised July 22, 1683. Died October 19, 1756. She married LAURENS ANDRIES VAN BUSKIRK in 1709.
(3) JANNETJE CORNELISSE VREELAND, born November 21, 1688. Died April 12, 1769. She married DANIEL VAN WINKLE, on September 3, 1709.
(C)(4) MICHAEL CORNELISSE VREELAND, born September 18, 1694. He married (First) ELYSABET GERRITS VAN RIPEN and (Second) JENNEKE VAN HOUTEN, on October 23, 1718. She was born November 2, 1699.
(5) METJE VREELAND, born October, 3, 1698. She married RYNIER VAN GIESEN.


(C) MICHAEL & JENNEKE had 11 children:

(1) METJE, born December 28, 1720. She married ABRAHAM VAN TUYLE. They had (6?) children.
(2) JEANNETJE, born 1722. Died young.
(3) CORNELIUS, born 1726. Died 1730
(4) JENNETJE, born 1728. She married JORIS CADMUS. They had 8 children.
(5) HELMIGH, born February 20, 1728. Married (First) NEELTJE VAN WAGENEN & (Second) JANNETJE SIP. They had 4 children.
(6) AAGTJE, born February 14, 1732, died 1802. Married HELMIGH VAN HOUTEN. They had 5 children.
(7) ABRAHAM, born August 16, 1734.
(8) CORNELIUS, born 1735, died 1819. Married CATRINTJE CADMUS. They had 7 children.
(9) DIRCK, born 1737. Married (First) MARITJE VREELAND. They had 3 children. (Second) ANTJE (HANNAH) BANTA. They had 2 children.
(10) JACOB, born March 11, 1737. Married (First) MARITJE BANTA. They had 4 children. (Second)WYNTJE DURIE. They had 3 children.
(D)(11)MICHAEL, born June 24, 1739, died 1804. Married ANNATJE VREELAND.
(12) JOHANNIS, born March 2, 1742. Married KEETJE HOAGLAND. They had 6 children.
(D)MICHAEL & ANNATJE had 4 children:

(E)(1) GEORGE, born January 31, 1762. Married JANE BRINKERHOFF
(2) ANNATJE, born July 19, 1764. She married JASPER ZABRISKIE
(3) JENNEKE, born 1775. She married DIRCK VAN RIPER
(4) JOHN, born May 1, 1780. He married AEGIE CADMUS (or Hester)

(E) GEORGE & JANE had 11 children:

(1) MICHAEL, born October 31, 1781. Married ALTIE OUTWATER on 11/29/1801 at the Old Bergen Church of Jersey City.
(2) HARTMAN, born March 15, 1784. Married ELIZA GAUTIER on 12/17/1808 at the Old Bergen Church of Jersey City.
(3) ANNETJE, born March 30, 1786. Married THOMAS McDONALD
(4) CORNELIUS, born February 25, 1789. Died 1813.
(5) JOHN G, born January 3, 1792. Married 2/1/1817, CATHERINE VAN HOUTEN, at the Old Bergen Church.
(6) CLAESJE, born December 26, 1794. Married GEORGE VAN RIPER.
(7)JACOB, born October 11, 1797. Died as infant.
(F)(8) HENRY, born October 11, 1797. Died 1854. He married LUCINDA JEROLAMON. She was born 1800, died 1879.
(9) JACOB, born July 5, 1800. Died as infant.
(10) GARRET, born June 26, 1803. Married MARY SMITH on 5/15/1824 at the Old Bergen Church.
(11) JACOB, born March 9, 1809. Died 1811.

(F) HENRY & LUCINDA had 9 children:

(1) JANE, born October 17, 1821. Married JOHN SALTER.
(2) ELIZABETH, born November 28, 1824. Married CORNELIUS LA TOURETTE
(3) CORNELIUS, born December 24, 1827. Married CATHERINE ANN DECKER.
(4) JOHN, born May 12, 1830, died in 1915. Married (First) JANE McDONALD & (Second) JOHANNA (?)
(5) GEORGE, born August 17, 1832. Married ELEANOR CORSON. Had 1 son.
(6) MARYANN, born September 6, 1834. Died 1861.
(G)(7) GARRET, born October 21, 1836. Married (First) ISABELLA DARLING on 3/2/1858 & (Second)


REBECCA JANE McFARLANE, born 1837, died July 14, 1898.
(8)HARTMAN, born January 27, 1839, died 1842.
(9) SARAH CATHERINE, born May 2, 1841. Died March 27, 1869. She married on 8/12/1860 to ADDIS RYNO

(G)GARRET & REBECCA JANE (known as Jane), had 5 children:

(1) THOMAS G., born January 14, 1862, died in 1923. He married (First) ANNA CADMUS on 4/28/1883. Anna was born in 1864 & died in 1910. They had 3 children, Jeannie, born March 29, 1884; Mary Frances, born March 15, 1886; and Lillian, born November 26, 1889, died in 1943. She married William PERRINE. THOMAS married (Second), MAY BERDAN.
(H)(2) CHARLES STUART, born February 23, 1864, died August 21, 1955. Married IRENE LIME from Carbondale, Penn.,on 3/2/1885. Irene was born January 5, 1857, died November 8, 1940.
(3) MADELINE, born June 8, 1866, died 1915, buried in Fairview Cemetery, Staten Island, NY (next to Jennie Vreeland).
(4) HENRY (known as Harry & Garret H.), born February 26, 1872. Died in Veteran's hospital in VA, March 20, 1943.
(5) CLARA AUGUSTA, born September 16, 1876, died December 15, 1964.

Clara married EDWARD MAXWELL on November 29, 1899 and moved to Budd Lake, New Jersey. They had four children - Edward, died of deptheria; Lillian born 11/26/1902, married, no children; Clara Jr., married & raised step son; and John, married ELIZABETH THORN. They had 4 children.

(H) CHARLES & IRENE had 7 children:


(1)CHARLES STEWART, born November 29, 1885, died March 21, 1975. He married October 8, 1919 to ROSE GEIGER. She died August 8, 1984. They had 2 children -1) RUTH, born December 21, 1920. Married CHARLES L. SMITH. They moved to Georgia and had 2 sons, Donald Robert, born May 30, 1953 & Burton Charles, born July 29, 1956. and 2) DONALD CHARLES, married REBA DUNSMUIR. They had 3 children, Patricia , Susan & Jeffrey.

(2) JOHN EVERETT (known as Ev) was born November 8, 1892, died October 2, 1961. He never married.

(3)ADA CODDINGTON, born August, 1894, died April 20, 1963. She never married.
(4) IRENE, born September 11, 1897, died March 17, 1973. She married JOHN INRIGHT on April 12, 1922. Adopted 2 children, Peggy & Norman.
(5) SADIE MAE, born November 29, 1889, died March 26, 1971. She married GEORGE HUBBELL, on August 24, 1919. Lived in Barberton, Ohio. No children.

(I)(6) MELVIN FRANKLIN, born June 29, 1901, died January 4, 1971. Married HELEN PATEY, February 23, 1928. She died December 18, 1989.
Mel won a gold medel from the Metropolitan Association for Amateur Boxing in 1922. He was the district champion of New Jersey. (Feather-weight class)
(7) MILTON, born 1887. Died as small child.

(I)(I) MELVIN & HELEN had 3 children:

(1) GERTRUDE MARIE, (Trudy) born September 14, 1923, to Helen & her first husband, BURKE. She was legally adopted by Mel Vreeland. She died May 23, 2001. Trudy married KENNETH VAN LIEW CONOVER, April 12, 1947 in the Grace Luthern Church, Bayonne, NJ. They had 2 sons: KENNETH VAN LIEW JR., born April 29, 1952 and DOUGLAS VREELAND, born May 22, 1955. He married SUSAN GRILL, September 22, 1984. They have two children, Sarah, born December 7, 1990 & Ryan, born September 10, 1988.

(2) MELVIN FRANKLIN JR., (Mel) born March 9, 1929. He married LOIS LAFFLER, May 2, 1964 in Clifton, NJ. Moved to Princton, NJ. Had 1 son, MELVIN ROBERT, born June 2, 1966. (As of this writing, he is the last VREELAND in this branch)

(3) JOAN, born February 14, 1935. She married CHARLES CONRAD STUDER, Auguest 16, 1953 (eloped) and had a church wedding October 24, 1953. Charles died February 22, 1990 in Oakland, NJ. They had 4 children:
CHARLES CONRAD JR., born May 15, 1955. Married DENISE LOHMANN. They had 2 children - CHARLES 111, born May 12, 1986 & KATHERINE JOAN, born April 29, 1988. As of this writing they live in Middletown, New York.

LAURIE LEE , born April 15, 1957. Married MARK JOSEPH KUCHENBROD. They had 2 children - MARK 11, (MJ), born April 26, 1982 & CRYSTAL LEE, born February 5, 1986. They live in Roanoke Rapids, North Carolina.
LISA LYN, born September 15, 1959. Never married. Moved to NC with mother & opened a B&B in Roanoke Rapids, NC.
ADAM GLEN, born March 2, 1964. Never married. Lives with mother and sister in NC
