Management - Description
Description:
- The
role of information management in organizations has
evolved into a critical resource for the firm. It
involves many aspects. Ranging from managing information
flows within an organization to assist in the decision
making process to storing files for the personnel profile
of an employee with the objective of retrieval for the
annual review process. There are various types of data
that are included in the information management context.
The creation of a context for this data is necessary to
further facilitate the advancements of the information
management discipline. The context for this data, as it
pertains to the topic, is in the form of a document
management or more importantly, the document management
process. The value of information of an organization is
measured in the various forms and documents utilized in
the everyday processes of an organization. Therefore, it
is necessary to manage the documents by creating a
certain structure or framework for the existence of this
data in the form of a document. The concepts and the
domain of document management may be divided into two
distinct categories. First, the technologies that are
needed for the effective use of document management.
Second the value of developing an effective document
system for the organization. If an effective document
management system is developed, then it will serve as a
necessary evolution stage for the further advancements of
the information management discipline.
- Document
management is a term used to refer to the storage,
retrieval, tracking, and administration of documents
within an organization. Its primary origin was the use of
manual file cabinets to store paper-based documents in
alphabetized categories based on the document's contents.
Since the widespread use of computer technologies,
document management now also applies to electronic
documents and paper-based documents that have been
converted to electronic form. These electronic documents
exist in a variety of formats to include wordprocessing
files, spreadsheets, graphics, video, audio, bit-mapped
images, and compound documents incorporating multiple
formats. Now, instead of manual file cabinets, automated
tools for document management are required to provide
users with services to access electronic documents.
