SUBMISSIONS


We accept submissions of poetry, prose, short fiction, line art (pencil or pen-and-ink), monotone prints, and b&w photos year round. We always need cover art and interior artwork.

Please send $1 per poem (.50 per page for stories) or $10 for unlimited submissions and receive a free copy of the upcoming issue. Contributors receive payment copy for each entry printed.

The theme for the 2009 Annual Anthology issue is "The Future."
Please note that submission is for this issue. Deadline: 12/31/2008
We are also still accepting Science Fiction/Fantasy for the 2005 issue, "Forces of Nature" submissions for the 2006 issue, "Dreams" submissions for the 2007 issue, and "Love" submissions for the 2008 issue.

The 14th Annual Southern Fried Regional Poetry Slam will happen in Birmingham, AL, June 8-10, all around the 5-Points area. The venues include The High Note Lounge, The 22nd Street Jazz Cafe, The Rock-N-Horse, and The Mellow Mushroom for the main events, and, also Sakura for the Haiku event!

At this 3-day festival, there will be open mics, readings, and workshops free and open to participation from the local public. Perhaps you might read at The Women's or Men's Open Mic, or come see the Head-To-Head Haiku event, which is always a favorite! Heat things up at the late night Erotic Open Mic, and show your support at the Pride Open Mic.

AND, COME OUT TO WATCH, or even to be a judge for, one of the three rounds of POETRY SLAM competition. The LAKE EDEN ARTS FESTIVAL puts on one of the best POETRY SLAMS in the USA, and this past weekend was no exception! Just got back from DragonCon in Atlanta! We're soliciting submissions for our annual theme issue, Science Fiction/Fantasy. Wow! We love DragonCon!



We spent a week with our poetry friends in New Orleans and had the best time! There were poetry events EVERY DAY OF THE WEEK! Some days, there were 2 or 3 and we had to choose! Just got home from the NATIONAL POETRY SLAM in St. Louis! It was so great to see everyone! Congratulations to Team Hollywood who won the week, and to Denver, Dallas, and Berkeley who helped make finals a fantastic and amazing night of poetry, the best show in years! Congratulations to individual champion, Sonya Renee, from Baltimore/Washington. You may recognize that name from the 2004 SOUTHERN FRIED CHAMPIONSHIP Team, Hampton Roads, VA! That's right, SOUTHERN FRIED represented at Nationals! Along with the ever-spectacular team Dallas who made finals (and rocked the house with my favorite new poem!), SIX (6) Southern Fried teams made semifinals this year, including next year's SF Host city and NPS rookies, Charlotte, NC! IT WAS A DAMN GRAND SLAM! We just returned from the Arkansas Grand Slam for the very first time, November 14-15 in Hot Springs! We had an Incredible time! Jeni and the Poet's Loft crew offered amazing hospitality to all the poets. Congratulations to Clayton Scott for a hard-fought win in this razor-close competition! All the poets were fantastic, the venue was superb, and I already mentioned the lovely temptress, Jeni, and all the Poet's Loft supporters, but they deserve mentioning yet again! WE JUST RETURNED FROM THE SOUTHERN FRIED REGIONAL POETRY SLAM IN NEW ORLEANS JUNE 19-21 with TEAM MONTEVALLO! WHAT A GREAT TIME! CONGRATS TO THE WINNERS, TEAM BATON ROUGE, AND THANKS TO ASALI AND THE N.O. GANG FOR HOSTING A GREAT SHOW.



We just returned from the LEAF where we saw one of the best poetry slams ever! Congratulations to Nick Fox, who won with one of the most incredible love poems ever uttered causing spontaneous multiple orgasms throughout the house and a din of oohs and ahs. Nick and poet Lucy Anderton (the object of said poem) celebrated into the night while we all headed for the incredible LEAF Drum Circle to dance around the bonfire!



We've been having a great time hosting touring poets at the Montevallo Poetry Slam. Special thanks to Kate Makkai of Denver, Blair, Scott, Dale, and Ella, of the National Champion Detroit Slam Team, and Soul Evans for making the trip for New Dawn and the Montevallo Slam!



The BAMASLAM First Annual Grand Slam sponsored by New Dawn Unlimited took place on Nov. 8-9 and the results are in! The winner was Da Wanderer(aka Terry Creech)from Charlotte, North Carolina. Details on PoetrySlam.Net
