The Woodstock Music and Art Fair Part-2

THE TRAFFIC BACKUP

On Tuesday Augaut 12th many people had started to arrive. By Thursday about 25,000 people had showed up. By Friday there was a major traffic jam and about 200,000 people inside the festival.

THE HEADLLINER: JOAN BAEZ

Day One was supposed to be the day for the folkies. Joan Baez wat the headliner followed by Tim Hardin, Arlo Guthrie, Sweetwater, the Incredible String Band, Ravi Shanker, Bert Sommer, and Melanie. Due to the traffic jam the performers could not be shuttled in as quick. Ritchie Havens began the three days of music at 5:07 p.m. Eastern Daylihgt Time on August 15, 1969.

THE MUD OF WOODSTOCK

During the concert on Friday it began to rain. Wthin seconds, the Festival became a slippery quagmire. By Saturday there was mud two inches deep. When a tracter pulling sewage was plowing through trash and sleeping bas on Saturday it ran over a boy. His name was Raymond Mizak, and he had his sleeping bag over his head to protect him from the rain when the tractor ran over him. By the time help arrived he was dead.
