FACTS AND HISTORY OF THE COMANCHES

Comanche Tribe's Official Flag

Hello and welcome! This is the history of the Comanches! There will be more along the way!

Location:

The Comanches are the people of the Rocky Mountains! That is where they were located until the white eye came to North America! Later they were moved to the area of Lawton,Oklahoma! Around the Witchita Mountains! Some moved down to Texas!

Traditions:

The Comanches had alot of traditions. They were very loyal to their traditions and tribal gatherings. They worshiped the Great Spirit and honored the buffaloe! For the buffaloe provided them shelter and warmth. They also provided them with food! They honored the horse! For the horse was strong and would never give up, and be loyal to the end. They honored alot of animals for the advantages they gave them! They honored the Great Spirit for providing them with all these things!

Hunting Habits:

The Comanches had good hunting habits! They had found useful ways to hunt and win every time! One thing that they would do when they hunted the buffaloe, they would put rattlesnake poison or blackwidow poison on the tips of the arrows and when they shot it into the buffaloe, it would kill them faster! Pretty good huh? Nice thinking!

Laws:

The Comanches had their set of laws. I am not sure what all they were but one big one was never to still one's horse! For stealing one's horse meant death! Without a horse they could not survive! They could not hunt! They could not keep up with the tribe on outings and got lost and died! Another was adultry! For if a woman commited adultry they could be killed! If a man was to commit adultry they were not harmed!

Size:

The Comanches were relatively short. They were not big at all. They were srtong warriors though! It was passed down in the genes to be short. Size did not matter though, it was strength that counted!

Half Comanche:

Quanah Parker. Half Comanche, half white! His mother was found by the Comanches and raised by the Comanches and she grew up and married a Comanche husband! They had a child named Quanah that was pretty tall, due to his mother. He was a very loyal Comanche citizen! He did his people well! He died miserable and disappointed though! For he wanted to do more for the Comanches! He missed the old days and he wanted it to be like it was, but his people were proud to have him in their tribe!

Quanah Parker

Legends:

Legend has it that the Comanches had horses before the Spaniards came to North America! For they were known as the "Lords Of The Plains" as well as the "Horseman Of The Plains"!

Genealogy:

When the United States government went to do a count on the Comanches, some ran away so as not to be around the white men! Therefore there were alot of Comanches who were not counted in the Comanche enrollment! Therefore there are alot of people who don't know they have an ounce of Comanche blood in them! Sad but true! But if you know it verbally and you are proud of it that is all that counts!
