BHMA S.H.A.P.E. program:
GETTING YOUR STUDENTS INTO S.H.A.P.E. A program by the Brotherhood of Martial Artists. A worldwide educational network. BEFORE YOU READ ON ASK YOURSELF WHAT DO YOU WANT FOR YOUR STUDENTS OR YOUR CHILD? DEFINITION OF SPIRITUAL: One is of a moral or religious nature. So you do not have to be religious to be spiritual. So you see the word spiritual fits right into our group. We feel morals should be taught in the dojos. If your choice is to run a religious martial arts school then great. You should not just teach punching and kicking is what we are saying. |

YOUR ANSWER SHOULD BE THAT YOU WANT THEM TO BE THE BEST THAT THEY CAN BE, SO THAT THEY CAN GROW UP INTO PRODUCTIVE ADULTS. IF THIS IS NOT WHAT YOU WANT THEN DON'T READ ANY FURTHER. THIS PAGE IS DEDICATED TO THE INSTRUCTOR WHO TRULY WANTS TO USE MARTIAL ARTS AS A TOOL TO BETTER THEIR STUDENT'S LIVES. IF YOU DISAGREE WITH TEACHING YOUR STUDENTS LIFE LESSONS TO SUCCEED & MORALS FOR TODAY'S WORLD, THEN JUST TEACH THE FIGHTING ASPECTS OF THE MARTIAL ARTS. OUR WAY IS TO TEACH BOTH THE FIGHTING/PHYSICAL BLENDED WITH THE SPIRITUAL TO MAKE ONE HECK OF A GREAT YOUNG ADULT. WHAT IS SPIRITUAL HEALTH: This is easy. We are not a Religious organization, but we feel life lessons and morals are not taught in today's martial arts schools. Your major religions such as Christian, Jewish, Muslim, and more all use the Old Testament, so they all have this in common. They also have the basic laws of how to live your life. The TEN COMMANDMENTS. Even if you are not religious you want a martial arts instructor to teach your child these values. These can be taught without any religious under tones. Now we are not preaching to be one religion or not. We do teach using martial arts as a tool to instill basic morals and values shared by so many. Just as we do not care what rank you are, we don't care what religion you are as long as in your martial arts school you are teaching more than just kicking and punching. MORALS & LIFE LESSONS: These are not taught in martial arts schools today. I have never heard any of this stuff taught in any martial arts school that I have ever been involved with since 1983. I have included moral & life lessons into my curriculum such as respect your parents, be happy with what you have, do not steal, and much more. Yes they are the 10 Commandments held dear by many religions. I also teach my students other life skills such as Teen Dating, Self-esteem, and so much more. WHAT CAN IT ACCOMPLISH: I have helped some of my students better their lives by dealing with domestic violence, rape, drug abuse, improved grades, and so much more. Let us face it. Parents want their kids to grow up learning this stuff. Kids sometime need others in their lives to reinforce what a parent tells them. FOUR PUZZLE PIECES: What do the four puzzle pieces represent? Well in order to make a student successful you need four pieces of the puzzle as you will. The first is the Instructor, then the Student, then the Physical part, and of course the Spiritual part. When you blend these together you can't help but turn out a good quality student. Again if spirituality isn't for you, then you should at least teach life lessons and morals which is founded off of the 10 commandments. CLOSING: If you do not teach life lessons and morals as part of your curriculum you should start as we have a great responsibility as teachers to be a part of shaping a child into the young adults of tomorrow.
