Author's Note: I wrote this in a few hours, with ideas from a book and my own mind. This is also a couple years old. "Look up, Denny," Acacia Robertson called to her friend, Arden Kozak. "No way, Casey," Denny called back. "There are no spaceships. Besides, the bell rang. Class is going to start." Denny turned to open the door. "Come on, Casey." When Denny turned around to scold her friend, Casey was gone. "Casey, come on. This isn't funny. School's going to start." Denny had thought Casey was playing a trick until she saw her best friend's purple ribbon on the ground. She still wore the purple ribbon, even though it was childish and she was fourteen. She'd gotten it on a birthday gift from her neighbour and crush, eighteen-year-old Keith Taylor. Casey never took the ribbon out of her hair. "Oh, no," Denny moaned. She just knew something terrible had happened. "Where are we going again, Mulder?" FBI agent Dana Scully asked her partner, Fox Mulder, as she examined her tired face in the fold-down mirror. "I forgot. I've had trouble sleeping and I've really been out of it." "I've noticed," Mulder replied. "We're gong to Daly, West Virginia. A young girl was abducted from her schoolyard and two weeks later, the police found her wandering on a highway. She's pregnant." "She's pregnant? Well, I don't think she was taken by any space aliens. I think that maybe she ran off with a boyfriend, got in over her head and got pregnant. You know how some kids are these days: they think with their hormones, not their heads." She tossed her auburn hair over her shoulder haughtily. Mulder kept his eyes on the road. "But the girl's mother is absolutely sure her daughter doesn't have a boyfriend." "Well, kids aren't as close to their parents as they were when I was young," said Scully. Mulder replied, "That may be true but August Robertson says her daughter is a good girl--that she knows better." "Does the girl remember anything?" Scully asked. "She does. The girl, Acacia, remembers being abducted by aliens. She insists they probed and impregnated her. I think she may be telling the truth." Scully said, "We'll establish the truth when we get there." "They told me when I arrived that I was helping them and the human race," Acacia Robertson explained to Mulder and Scully. Her mother, August, was siting beside her on the sofa. "Did they put an implant in you?" Mulder asked. "In your neck? Behind your ear? Up your nose?" Acacia nodded. "They did. Right here." She pointed to a scratch on her arm. Mulder asked, "Could I take a picture of that later?" The girl nodded. Then, he said, "Can you tell us what happened? About your experience?" Acacia shook her head. "No. It's too hard." "Would you like me to leave and you just tell Agent Scully?" Mulder suggested. "That would be better," August said. "What do you think, Casey?" she asked her daughter. Casey nodded. "Yeah. I'd feel more comfortable. No offence to you, Agent Mulder." He smiled and touched the girl's arm. "No offence taken, Casey." Mulder stood up. "I'll wait outside." As he left the room, he heard his partner ask, "How far along are you?" Casey answered, "About a month and a half." When Mulder got outside, he sat down on the Robertsons' front porch and waited for Scully. "She said the aliens inserted something into her?" Mulder said, sitting on Scully's motel-room bed. Scully nodded. "She said it was thicker than a pencil and then, I read her file. From the report about her condition when she was found, I determined that she could've participated in violent consensual intercourse or was raped." "I think she could've been raped by extraterrestrials but then, I guess we have different opinions." Mulder pulled out a bag of sunflower seeds. "Want some?" Scully reluctantly took some and raised an eyebrow. "And you just figured that out? You've known for the longest time that our ideas are different." "Yeah, your stock and trade is science." Mulder scolded, "Come on, Scully. The case?" She rolled her eyes. "I think we should get someone to put Casey under hypnosis. There's a great doctor I know of in Charleston. I can get him out here. I just have to find his card. It's somewhere in my suitcase." "Mulder, there isn't a need for hypnosis. The girl is pregnant, either by consensual or forced intercourse." Mulder shrugged. "But it doesn't hurt to check." Scully rolled her eyes. "Fine, Mulder. Let's see if it does anything." She muttered, "I'm sure it will be a waste of time." Mulder smiled. He'd heard her last remark but ignored it. "I knew you'd agree with me." He then searched through his suitcase and when he found the doctor's card, he called him. "Hello, Agent Mulder, Agent Scully," Casey called from her front porch, tossing her dark auburn braid over her shoulder. She was sitting with a brown-haired boy. "Who are you?" Mulder asked suspiciously. The boy answered, "My name's Keith Taylor. I'm Casey's friend." "Casey, Dr. Hughes is coming soon," Mulder said. "Do you want your mother with you while you're under hypnosis?" Casey nodded. "I'd like that, and you can stay this time, Agent Mulder." She smiled. "That's the first time I've seen you smile in weeks," Keith told Casey. "I've had no reason to." All of a sudden, a blue Saturn pulled up. A man with black hair got out. "Dr. Cooper Hughes?" Mulder asked. "I'm Special Agent Fox Mulder. We spoke over the phone." The man--Dr. Hughes--nodded and shook Mulder's hand. "Yes. We spoke yesterday." Mulder motioned to Scully. "This is my partner, Dana Scully." Dr. Hughes shook her hand. Casey came up to the three adults. Mulder introduced her: "This is Casey Robertson." "Nice to meet you, Casey," Dr. Hughes said, shaking the girl's hand. "Before we start, do you have any questions you need answered about hypnosis?" Casey shook her head. "No. Not really." "Let's get started then." Dr. Hughes, Scully and Mulder started into the house. "I'll see you later, Keith," Casey said, going into the house. "Casey, I forgot to tell you," August said. "While you were sleeping, the police dropped off the purple ribbon they found." She handed it to her daughter. Dr. Hughes explained to August," We'd usually do this in my office but Agent Mulder called and requested for me to come out here." He saw Casey. "Let's start now." Casey got comfortable on the sofa. She held her ribbon from Keith. Dr. Hughes instructed, "Okay. I want you to watch my hand." He moved it in front of her face. "Just concentrate on it and block out all other thoughts. Steady your breathing. You'll get really tired. Just let your eyes close." Casey followed the instructions and her eyes closed and her head began to bob. Dr. Hughes said, "Casey, I need you to tell me what happened." He turned on a tape recorder. She spoke in a far-off voice: "I'm in the schoolyard with Denny. She's telling me to hurry into school. The bell's rung. Denny goes to open the door. I start to walk and somebody pulls on my braid and my ribbon comes out. Before I can say anything, someone's hand is over my mouth. I see Denny calling for me but she can't see me. I'm being carried away. Denny's getting further and further from sight." "What happens then?" Mulder interrupted. Casey touched her head. "Someone throws me into a car and I bump my head. He says everything is going to be okay." "Where does the man took you?" Dr. Hughes asked. "To a cabin. He takes me inside and puts me on the bed. I try to move but my body aches. I start to cry and he tells me to be quiet. "He takes off my pants. He starts to take his off and I scream, 'No, Keith. I don't want to. I like you but I don't want to.' He says, 'I know you like me. I know you've wanted this for a long time, Casey. Now, you can have it.' Then, he rapes me. It hurts and I bleed. "I cry and he slaps me and I yell, 'Don't, Keith. Stop hurting me.' He gives me a disgusted look and hands me some Kleenex and says, 'Clean yourself up before you bleed to death.' He does up his pants and leaves, locking the door behind him so I can't get out. "He comes back every day for a long time and rapes me. He tells me he's sorry as he rapes me. "Finally, I get out because Keith forgets to lock the door. I wander through the woods until I find the highway. I faint and when I wake up, I'm at the hospital with several police officers around my bed." "Get her out now," Mulder ordered. Casey was in tears. She was shaking uncontrollably. Dr. Hughes said, "When I count to three, you will wake up." He counted and Casey snapped out of her trance. "Mom, what's wrong?" August was crying and hugging her daughter. "I'll tell you later," August said. "I knew you were a good girl." Scully whispered to Mulder, "We have to find Keith now." Casey stood up and went to the garbage can. She tossed the purple ribbon inside. "I don't need this childish thing anymore." "We'll talk to you later," Mulder said, leading Scully out. They started to look for Keith, the thief of Casey's innocence. "Hello, August," Mulder said a few days later, over the phone. "Oh, Agent Mulder, did you get Keith?" August said quickly. "Yeah. We took him into custody and when we started asking him questions, he confessed to raping Casey. He also said he didn't mean to get her pregnant. Since he's eighteen, he'll be charged with kidnapping and sexual assault of a minor." Mulder asked, "What are you and Casey going to do about the baby?" August's voice shook a bit as she said, "I was going to call you earlier. A couple hours after I'd told Casey about what had really happened to her, she miscarried. Even though she'd gotten pregnant through violent means, she's devastated. I just told her that now, she can have a life: that she won't have to give her young life to motherhood." "Well, tell Casey to give me a call when she's up to it. I'm at home now but if ever I'm not, she can leave a message or she can call me on my cell phone." August asked, "Agent Mulder, why would Casey have said aliens took her. I mean, she's read a few books about abductions, but she wouldn't tell stories. She's a good girl." "I think the rape traumatised her and she sort of lost touch with reality. I don't blame her. She's been through a lot." "Well, I really want to thank you and Agent Scully. You helped my daughter so much." Mulder said, "You're welcome. I'm glad we could help. I just hope Casey can get on with her life." August said before hanging up, "I think she can." Mulder put the receiver down and looked out the window, into the night sky. "I guess Scully was right...this time."
