Southern Athletic Club, based in the southern suburban region of Adelaide, South Australia provides a regional club base for Track and Field Athletics. This year the club proudly celebrates its tenth anniversary.

We at Southern Athletic Club have developed a proud tradition of being known as a friendly club. We welcome new members at any level of the sport from beginners through to experienced competitors. We also welcome those who do not wish to compete but who would like to be a part of the athletic family, such as officials.

During our summer months (November - March) members compete both at the inter-club athletics competition - the major Track and Field competition in South Australia, organised and run by Athletics SA at SANTOS STADIUM, Mile End, and at our own twilight club competition held fortnightly on a Monday evening at our home track at the Wirreanda High School, States Road, Morphett Vale. South Australia.

Twilight meetings are from 7:00pm until about 9:00pm, visitors are welcome.

I am proud of all members who are part of our club and I delight in the enjoyment members receive from our sport.

• Jagan Hames - former member - Now at the Australian Institute of Sport, Canberra. Winner and Gold Medallist Commonwealth Games decathlon Kuala Lumpur 1998, winner and Gold Medallist High Jump at the World Junior Championships 1992, Athletics SA South Australian Athlete of the Year 1997 - 1999, Southern Athletic Club Athlete of the Year and Mollie Heffernan Trophy holder 1989 - 1997.
• Brooke Krueger - member - State open women’s hammer throw record holder, member of the 1998 Australian Athletic team to the World Junior Athletics Championships, France. Athletics SA 1998 under 18 female Athlete of the Year. Southern Athletic Club Athlete of the Year and Donna Gould Trophy holder 1996/ 1997 -1997/1998. National ranking women’s hammer throw and shot put.
• Narelle Craig - member - Former state open women’s hammer throw open champion and record holder, 1995 under 18 female Athlete of the Year, (Athletics SA) Southern Athletic Club Female Athlete of the year and Donna Gould Trophy holder 1993/1994 - 1994/1995 1995/1996. 1994 National Under Age Track and Field Championships - Hammer throw, Bronze Medallist.

• Bradley Fuss - member - 1999 Track and Field 100m, 200m and 400m State Champion and Gold Medallist. Member and Silver Medallist, state under 20yo 4X400m relay team (anchor leg), 1999 National Under Age Track and Field Championships. Finalist 1998 National Under Age Track and Field Championships Under 18, 400m (5^th). Silver medallist Under 20, 4 X 400. 1998 Southern Athletic Club Male Athlete of the Year and Mollie Heffernan Trophy winner. Life member Noarlunga Little Athletics Club.

I extend congratulations to Jorgen Guldbjerg and Rob Lowe, Southern Athletic Club officials who have been selected to officiate at the Olympic Games in Sydney. I wish these officials the best of luck and it is my hope that they enjoy themselves and return with great and fond memories of their experience.

I wish all athletes a successful and exciting year in athletics particularly as we move towards the Olympic Games in Sydney in the year 2000.
