More Information About Constructivist Theory
Home Page
In our class this year, I will be using the constructivist approach and the directed approach to teach the students. Some of the directed approach techniques that I will use will include: giving pretests before the material has been taught, the students will work on assignments by themselves at their desks. For example, when we start a new math lesson, I will give a pretest to let me know how much they know. Then, I will introduce and teach the new concept. The students will be given assignments which they will be able to ask me for help but not their peers. After they have had time to learn the new concept, they will be given a test.
The constructivist approach will allow the child to work in groups. We will be doing experiments, forming hypothesis and checking them with our experiments. I will use problem solving where they will explore different possible answers to these problems. This will be a hands on approach. This method will be used mostly in science and social studies. The child's performance will be evaluated using a performance checklist and the tests for these activities will be open ended without one certain answer.
