Abel JEWETT:

Notes:
Abel joined the Union Army, the 24th Iowa Infantry, Co. K, Pvt, 18th of August 1862. He died in camp near Helena, Arkansas on Dec. 13, 1862.The service records list the cause as "inflammation of the bowels and stomach", (The regiment records mention that many men were ill on the boat that took them from Iowa to Helena in Oct. of 1862). No records have been found of his burial in Jones County nor in any national military cemetery.
