Summary: Nikolas runs into his ex-step-mom to be in Kelly's and makes a rather large scene about his feelings for her.(And no, it's not that whole, Luke n' Laura on the table thing!Eeewwww) And Kathrine just doesn't respond well to it.
She was here, he could feel her, he scanned the room and saw her, her back to him, hunched over. He slipped his jacket off of his shoulders and walked towards the only empty table in Kelly's, right in front of her. He sat down and draped his jacket across the empty chair and waited for Stephan and Laura. He stummed his fingers on the table and looked around at the people in Kelly's. His eyes landed on her, she looked up and streached her neck and then looked back down without noticing him. She sighed, turned the page, ook a sip of tea and rested her cheek on her hand and her eyes wandered up to his, he smiled and she looked away, back to the book. She rubbed her neck and a flush rose to her cheek as she fought to keep her eyes down. She missed him, how he watched her sleep, traced her fce with his finger, she smiled slightly down at the table as she thought of it. He saw that and took it as a good sign, he rose and walked towards her and sat down "Katherine"
"Nikolas, hi" She smiled softly and marked her page and shut it "How are you?"
"I'm fine, you Katherine?"
"The same" She saw Lucky and Liz and Emily who were sitting at a table waviing to Nikolas, which she pointed out "They're trying to get your attention" She smiled down at her coffe as he nodded his head towards his brother and turned back to her, looking around for a conversation piece, noticing her book, picking it up " 'So Seldom We Look on Love' , Barbra Gowdy, Is it any good?" Kathrine took a sip of her tea and licked her lips and set her cup down "Look Nikolas, I don't really intend on staying here making small talk so, " She picked up her purse and placed a few singles onto the table. She snached her her book from Nikolas, feeling his hand and looking up, "You felt that?" He asked, she merely shook her head and and threw her book into her purse "Yes I felt that and if you'll excuse me, I'll be leaving" She swung her purse onto her shoulder and he pulled her back down into her seat. "Nikolas look, I didn't tell ok, so let go of me!"
"Kathrine wait"
"For what? Another one of those talks you're so fond off, like on the docks, where you practicly called me a bitter slut? Gee, that's ok, you know, I do believe my self-esteem is shot, but maybe tomorrow "
"Kathrine I'm sor-"
"Don't be" She leaned over and kissed his cheek "All my life I was the immature one in my relationships, now, I was given a taste of maturity, of opening Nikolas, of feeling for the very first time in a very long time" She stood up and walked away, picking up her coat from the rack and folding over one arm. She turned back and smiled at him as Laura nad Stephan walked through the door. Nikolas jumped up, "Kathrine wait" He called. The cafe became deadly silent as Kathrine Sighed and turned to face him "Kathrine, I don't know what to say except . . .except. . .except. . .'You were the love for certian . . .Without my beloved soul I renounce my life as my right' " He stood there, taking deep breaths, what was he doing, why were they looking at him like that? Why wasn't she saying anything?"She looked at him, "Nikolas what are you trying to say? "
"What I'm saying Kathrine is that you weren't the only one with emotions invested, you weren't the only one who fell in love, what I'm saying is that I love you Kathrine!" She looked dazed for a moment, slightly dizzy almost, she closed her eyes and took a deep breath and even though she whispered in her softest voice, softer than angels wings that brushed together in the 7th heaven, the cafe hung onto her every word "Nikolas no!" She turned around and walked out the door. There was a moment of supreme silence, everything remained in it's suspened state. A car skidded outside and that broke the silence as Nikolas, with his head hanging down looked up and walked to the door to where he knew she would be.
She sat on the bench and took a deep breath of the air. She heard him call her name and knew it was only moments before he arrived to where she at on the docks and asked from an explanation. She didn't have one. She heard his footsteps and then, nothing. He leaded back and caught his breath in large deep intakes. He lifted hi head and sawsaw the blond tips of Kathrine's hair. He steaded himself and and walked down towards Kathrines chosen seat and kneeled down before her. "Kathrine, I'm sorry" She looked down at him, almost detached, almost avoiding, and smilled, laying a hand on his shoulder. She looked up and out towards the water, "I've wondered why this dock draws so many people, "
"Kathrine?" He placed his hands on her face and forced her to look at him, in his eyes as he inched forward to her "Kathryn, look at me, I love you, you have me on my knees! Kathrine please" She stood, with her hands holding his, lifting him up. She dropped his hands and walked to the edge, thinking breifly, what she would do to jump off, just dive into the water, away from here. She shivered and wrapped her arms around her "I love you Nikolas" She paused, leting her words dance on the wind to wherever they might go, how far the wind would carry them untill they became too heavy. Nikolas walked up behind her and wrapped his own arms around her. She felt him all around her, his scent his warmth, everything, all he could probibly feel from her was cold. "I love you Nikolas, but I can't trust you not to hurt me, and I know that if you ask yourself too, you'd say the same thing. You can't trust me either. And it's not you, Nikolas, when you're with me, it's the two of us, alone, just us, but when you are out there with people, you come back changed, you come back like they want you to come back, bitter and suspisious and hell-bent on hurting us. You let what people say affect you, why? You never did that before, you could have cared less" All that met her was silence, she turned in his arms, sinking into his chest, growing dizzy with contentment from Nikolas's fingers in her hair and the wind circling around them and the pounding of his heart and the blood rushing to her ears . "I know I'm younger than you Kathrine, but I'm not dumb-"
"I never said you were Nikolas I-"
"I never said you said, You're right, I don't trust you, because I can't forget how it felt, hearing you tell Helena how you were using me. But I want to Kathrine, and that has got to count for something."
"It does Nikolas" She spoke softly, reflecting on her actions, reflecting on her actions, she never did that, she never acted like this ether. So she did what she would always do, cop out. She smiled wickedly up at him and slipped her hands under his shirt and made him laugh. "Your hands are cold"
"Oh, I'm sorry, are they?"
"Yes"
"I can fix that"
"Yes I can" He slowly pushed her hands out and clasped them together, bringing them to his lips, breathing warm air past his lips on to them. She laughed, the Ally McBeal love giggle. She stepped back, pulling at his hands "Do you know what I want to do?"
"No, but I'm sure I can guess" The sun shone down nto the docks, peeking out of the gray clouds as they walked off of the docks flirting wildy with each other. All was right in their world, if only for a moment or two.
