Bengali settlers harass 33 indigenous Buddhist families in Rowangchari of BandarbanOn 24 June 2013 the indigenous Marma villagers submitted an application to the Deputy Commissioner of Bandarban district to cancel the registration of land by Muslim settlers. A total of 33 indigenous Marma families are facing threat of eviction in connection of land grabbing in Fakkhyong Para under Rowangchari sub-district of Bandarban district. 33 Marma families have been living in Fakkhyong Para for generations. 3 acres of land of this village with a holding number 56 was recorded in the name of village headman Mr. Chaithowai U Mog in 1929. However recently a Muslim settler named Mohammad Samad Ali declared that 2/3rd of this land belong to him. In 1985, Mohammad Samad Ali secretly registered 2 acres of land of this village in his name with a holding number 345 with the help of local administration in Bandarban. He is now pressing the villagers to vacate the land. The villagers are now under the threat of force eviction. It is mentionable that Mohammad Samad Ali came to this village from mainland Bangladesh in 1982-83. He sought shelter from local indigenous people. The villagers were kind to provide him land for his livelihood. But he became disloyal to the community by grabbing their lands. At the moment 33 families of Fakkhyong Para are passing days with threat of eviction. The Muslim settlers have been continuously harassing them with the aim to uproot them from their village and to occupy their ancestral land and homesteads. 33 Marma families of Fakkyong Para who are facing eviction follows:
