Bengali settler rapes an indigenous Tripura woman in Panchari of Khagrachari district

On 24 September 2011 Mohamed Karim (31) raped an 18-years old indigenous Tripura woman of Karko Karbari Para of Panchari. At around 11:00 am the victim was staying at their farm house (a temporarily built residence for cultivation) only with her one and half year old infant. Her husband Pushpa Ranjan Tripura went to Panchari headquarter with his mother to take aged allowance. Meanwhile, the Muslim settler appeared at the farm house and asked for a glass of drinking water to the victim. When the victim came out from her room to give a glass of water, Mohamed Karim grabbed her neck and then raped her. While the victim was out crying, Mohamed Karim left the spot quickly.

On 26 September 2011, a case was filed with Panchari police station by the victim’s husband. But police did not take any action to arrest the Muslim settler. The relatives of the victim also complained that the medical test of the victim was done belatedly.
